I just got back from a really productive week at @writerscolonydh and today in my email: a full manuscript request. I sent the query back in November and had given up all hope.
Some days the #amwriting#amquerying dream seems less delusional than others.

Jump on this opportunity! Bianca paired me up with 4 other amazing YA writers and we've been working together now for months. They make me better. And they make writing infinitely less lonely. You won't regret it ❤️ @carriegolus@EliSusman_Books@AriannaSidd, Eddie where RU??
“What advice would you give to a brand-new Maroon?” Read more advice – from faculty, alumni, students, and classic texts – in the Core. @UChicagoMag@UChicagoCrown
I love https://t.co/mm8nDW39X8 for transcribing, but its summaries are so random.
Yes, I did interview a monk (the monastery is in Bridgeport near Maria’s).
No, I did not offer any advice on prioritizing God and faith.
And Jon Anderson (of rock band Yes) was not there.
Querying writers, you know that spreadsheet we all have? The one we can't wait to not need any more? Well, I just went in & executed a "find & replace", replacing every agent query I'd labeled REJECTION, with the word PASS. Same info, better vibe. We have to be kind to ourselves.
“The challenge is … trying to reach an audience of alums ranging from those who graduated 60 years to six months ago.”
This is exactly why I love my job at @UChicagoMag ⤴️

Can confirm. Got a two book deal...in an auction, six figures for each book...at a time nobody but my siblings and cousins were following me on any social media. Lol. Now three books (one NYT bestseller) later, I still have a small following.
This morning I’m interviewing Richie Hofmann about the Poetry and the Human course he teaches at @UChicago. When I looked up one of his poems in @parisreview, the home page was like a UChicago special: English prof Srikanth Reddy, alumna @shreedaisy … Did I miss anyone?
Verbs are overrated, and adverbs are underrated.
I love adverbs truly, madly, deeply, and I use them in my writing frequently.
As does Donna Tartt, who is indisputably a genius.
