We are excited to share our research on brain structure in outpatients with #anorexianervosa, in which we considered not only BMI but also duration of weight restoration. @drbbrodrick https://t.co/yw7nRCDkpI
Heide Blake's reporting clearly lit a fire under the @CPSUK (who in 2019 let the Tate Brothers go because of "an ounce of doubt").
It really shouldn't take a journalist to shame prosecutors and police into action, 11 years after the first complaint.

The push for permanent Daylight Saving Time isn't being driven primarily by chronobiologists or sleep experts. Historically, its strongest supporters have been industries that benefit from people staying out later in the evening: golf courses, outdoor recreation, sports leagues, amusement parks, barbecue and grill manufacturers, convenience stores, retail businesses, and some hospitality and tourism groups. More evening daylight can increase consumer spending—but what's good for commerce isn't necessarily what's best for public health. The scientific consensus from major sleep and circadian organizations continues to favor permanent Standard Time as the healthier choice for human biology.
America already made daylight saving time permanent once. In December 1973, 79% of Americans supported it and Nixon signed it into law. By February 1974, eight weeks into the experiment, support had collapsed to 42%. The policy never changed. Winter arrived.
Sunrise in Washington DC came at 8:27am. Kids left for school in total darkness, carrying flashlights and wearing reflective tape. When Congress moved to repeal, members cited the deaths of eight Florida schoolchildren in the first weeks of the change.
The energy case collapsed too. The whole point was the oil embargo, and the Department of Transportation concluded the fuel savings were too small to matter. Ten months after signing it, Congress repealed it and Ford put the country back on standard time.
There's a mechanism that makes this cycle repeat: permanent DST is only ever voted on when the sun is up. Polls run in the abstract, votes happen in warm months, and the benefit, a free hour of evening light, is easy to imagine year-round. The cost is concentrated in about 10 weeks of dark winter mornings and only becomes real after implementation. So the policy polls beautifully right up until January.
Today's vote happened in July. The 1974 law passed in December, right before the exact winter that killed it. If this clears the Senate, the first real test arrives in January 2027, when sunrise in Indianapolis comes after 9am.
Sleep researchers have watched this loop for 50 years, which is why the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the AMA, and the National Sleep Foundation all back the opposite reform, permanent standard time. Congress just picked the one version of clock reform America has already tried, hated, and repealed.
Close to the summer solstice, permanent Daylight Saving Time seems great. But if this bill goes into law, come wintertime it will be obvious that it’s a terrible idea.
If you want to avoid twice-yearly time changes, permanent Standard Time is the only sensible choice.
Your tattoo isn’t just decorative ink: it’s a permanent trigger that keeps your immune system locked in a lifelong cycle of chronic inflammation.
As soon as the ink is injected into your skin, your body recognizes the pigment particles as foreign invaders. Immune cells called macrophages immediately swarm the area and attempt to swallow them up. But because they can’t actually break down the ink, the macrophages eventually die, releasing the pigment back into the surrounding tissue — only for a new wave of macrophages to arrive and repeat the process.
This endless cycle is what keeps the tattoo permanently visible, while also maintaining a state of ongoing, low-level inflammation in the skin.
Over time, some of these ink particles migrate through the lymphatic system and accumulate in the lymph nodes, placing constant stress on the body’s defense mechanisms. Emerging research suggests this internal ink buildup may interfere with normal immune function, potentially reducing the effectiveness of certain vaccines, including mRNA types. Additionally, many tattoo inks contain heavy metals like nickel and cobalt. Combined with the chronic inflammation, this has been linked to a modestly elevated risk of lymphoma and skin cancer.
While tattoos remain a powerful form of self-expression, they represent a complex, decades-long biological conflict between your immune system and foreign substances embedded in your skin.

It's crazy how the right spent years falsely accusing Joe Biden and his family of profiting off of the presidency and now they have actual evidence trump and his family are doing it and suddenly it's not a problem.
Makes sense. Because when a girl is raped by a boy with a bad background, it harms her less, right?
Just like men who kill women they know, in their own homes, are given lighter sentences. Presumably the women are less dead?
When will women matter?

I'm always for being open about mental health, but important context is that Kean, as a state rep, voted against the New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Act, which established 40 hours of sick leave for employees a year.
Kean just took *4 months* of paid sick leave.
Physicians are banned from owning hospitals because Congress listened to hospital lobbyists.
That’s it.
Not patients.
Not doctors.
Not evidence.
Lobbyists.
Paid assassins in better suits, carrying orders from the health systems that wanted less competition.
They convinced Congress to punish an entire profession for something they claimed physicians might do someday.
No evidence.
No trial.
No jury.
Just a lobbyist with a checkbook.
The smarter women are, the more hostility they face.
In the U.S. & China, the higher women’s IQs, the less they're liked—and the more they’re undermined by coworkers. Men pay no price for being bright.
It's long past time to recognize female intellect as an asset, not a threat.
Imagine pitching medical school on Shark Tank.
“I’m seeking a $400,000 investment, 11 years of development time, my twenties, my sleep, and most major life events.”
For some reason, nobody seems interested.
American science is at extraordinary risk.
NIH has awarded less than half as many grants as it has compared to the past five fiscal years averaged together.
'I thought we were at rock bottom', the official said. 'We are below rock bottom now.'"

When patients ask, “What disorder do I really ‘have’?” the honest answer is usually more interesting and messier than a single label. I wrote for the @nytimes on what I wish people understood about diagnoses and the nature of mental health problems.

Those who pray are aware of their own limitations; they do not kill or threaten with death. Instead, death enslaves those who have turned their backs on the living God, turning themselves and their own power into a mute, blind and deaf idol (Ps 115:4–8), to which they sacrifice every value, demanding that the whole world bend its knee. Enough of the idolatry of self and money! Enough of the display of power! Enough of war! True strength is shown in serving life. #Peace
God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.
This week, classrooms across Texas will go quiet as our kids take flawed, high-stakes tests that fail to reliably measure student achievement while hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars flow to out-of-state, testing corporations. That's not accountability. That's a corrupt system that serves corporate interests not kids.
