๐จ Bad SEO Agency:
Our client sells swimwear, so let's target the keyword "swimwear" โ 70,000 searches per month, so ranking for that keyword will drive a ton of sales.
๐๐ฝ Good SEO Agency:
Our client sells swimwear, but we're not going to be able to rank them for the keyword "swimwear" โ it's too competitive.
Instead, let's build out additional, more specific Product Category pages:
For example:
- bikini
- black swimsuit
- halterneck bikini
- glitter bikini
Those keywords still have a large search volume, they're not as competitive, so we'll be able to rank in the top 5 positions for them, and they'll convert better since they're more specific.
๐ GREAT SEO agency:
Weโre going to build out colour, style, and trend categories to capture more specific search intent with still high volume.
But weโve noticed something.
Our average order value of swimwear category is ยฃ12, itโs our lowest value product. We want people to buy more from us, so weโre going to build out destination pages. Weโve seen people looking forโฆ
Ibiza outfits 4400 msv
Greece outfits 3800 msv
Dubai outfits 4200 msv
These are going to include the bikinis, as well as the bag, the beach cover up and shoes. Weโre going to execute this with content across Google, Pinterest and, TikTok because theyโre the top 3 channels its searched on, and aim to get the average order value from ยฃ12 to ยฃ100+ because they buy their whole holiday outfit with us not just a bikini
Donโt be surprised when Every SEO agency has access to the same keyword volumes, and they recommend the same strategies to go after the same
Keywords and it doesnโt work.
๐ We did the above for our client for multiple destinations and were pos 1, got over 68 links as a result of it, and average order value on those pages more than quadrupled.
Bad SEO Agency:
Our client sells lamps, so let's target the keyword "lamps" โ it has 48,000 searches per month, so ranking for that keyword will drive a ton of sales.
Good SEO Agency:
Our client sells lamps, but we're not going to be able to rank them for the keyword "lamps" โ it's too competitive.
Instead, let's build out additional, more specific Product Category pages to target long-tail variations of the keyword "lamps."
For example:
- table lamps (25,000 SV)
- bedside lamps (8,600 SV)
- living room lamps (8,1000 SV)
- bedroom lamps (7,300 SV)
Those keywords still have a large search volume, they're not as competitive, so we'll be able to rank in the top 5 positions for them, and they'll convert better since they're more specific.
It's a win-win-win.
If your SEO agency doesn't think like this, it's time to find a new one.

Yeah I sold mine within 2 weeks, no estate agent, free ads and did the photos myself because I trust no one to market it better than me ๐
And I made ยฃ20k
If you're at Brighton SEO San Diego, you need to read this... ๐
3 years ago I attended the conference in the UK and spotted a guy on stage... ๐ค
I asked my team "who's that" they said Jake Gauntley, SEO/ organic director over at Kinesso ๐
I said "he's insane. Easily the best here this week. Incredible speaker. Super smart. ๐ง
I said I wanna hire him. They said "nah good luck, he's worked at Kinesso & Reprise 12 years. He ain't leaving"
I wrote his name in my notes on my phone. ๐ฒ
Today... over in the states ... Jake is standing on stage at BrightonSEO San Diego
representing Rise at Seven.
I hired him.
I got lucky.
Not only did Jake go on to marry an American woman and need a job, but he got in touch with us directly.
Not only that but Phil my managing partner used to work with Jake - the squad is back together ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
He's been with me coming up to a year now and he's here delivering a talk that is next level.
He's showing you how SEO/ organic is everyone's job. And how to build a team, structure and process that builds #1 on LLMS and Google
The case studies are ๐ฅ๐๐ซถ , genuinely NOONE is doing the actual work multi channel like us - the work is real life case studies from the last few months that him and my SEO, PR and social team have delivered out of our NY office.
10000% go see him!
Track 1
3:20 - branding & Al
Jake Gauntley
@brightonseo helped me not just find amazing talent, but get my brand infront of thousands across UK & US. And today I pass the reigns to Jake to take the stage for Rise at Seven
Lesson l've learnt:
.
Push back if the pitch deadline is too tight - if they want you they will wait, if they don't - it wasn't yours anyway
I CANNOT EXPRESS THIS ENOUGH.
Sometimes it's a good test to see how serious the buyer is about YOU.
"Can we get another week" in the process? Isn't a bad question to ask.
You're busy, the best agencies are effing rammed right now.
High demand! They're the ones you want anyway
Not the ones not in demand
You can copy our proposition and framework
You can steal our brand colours
You can mimic our designs
You can follow our footsteps at events
You can duplicate our website copy
YOU CAN EVEN TAKE OUR SLOGAN
but you canโt take what I got โค๏ธ
There I said it! ๐
(Yes all these things are happening right now). Thanks to them for making the market pie and demand bigger for us ๐ค๐๐ผ
I canโt turn water into wineโฆ
But what I can do is โฆ
Turn a shit idea into a great one
Turn a piece of coverage into a link
Turn a ยฃ100k retainer into a ยฃ700k retainer
Turn a manager into a director
Turn a pos 8 brand into a category leader
Turn a hater into a lover
Turn an idea into a business
Turn a no into a yes
Youโre hearing it now, today, this moment.
Iโm building the best organic search team youโve seen in the industry. ๐
I mean it, Iโve put out an offer out and had accepted our new Global Director of Organic Growth (SEO & GEO) - Iโm insanely lucky to land this guy! From probably one of the biggest agencies Iโve admired for a decade
Iโm making 3 other hires too, across Europe, UK & US.
SEOs at Rise at Seven donโt just work on website content. They know every algorithm and search platform.
๐This guy in particular is building insane entity maps across LLMs.
๐A girl we just hired has spent years perfecting Reddit for the biggest global publishers and now bringing it to Rise
Give me 4 months and il update you every step of the way.
Iโll document the whole thing under #OrganicSearchTeam - on this thread, 4 months, every hire, every change, every lesson
Iโve seen brands ask โskip the strategy and get straight to execution!โ
Eh? Thatโs the value part. Most of these shit agencies are pissing in the wind and pissing your budget up the wall
Il tell you exactly where weโre going, how weโre gonna get there, using what content, on what channels, in what format
And the execution will be 10x better than just going live with something I have no idea where to put it and if itโll work
Story time ๐ฐ๏ธ - we recently got PAID to pitch for a global 7 country account โฆ
head to head against 7 agencies , each agency got given a country and a test โฆ
Someone got given the hardest market of all ๐ and of course it had to be us ๐ญ โฆ butโฆ despite being against the oddsโฆ.
we won it! ๐
The client used to work agency side and said โI know how much time and effort goes into this. So weโre going to pay you all. Whoever delivers the best results, best partnership, best collaboration winsโ ๐
Massive shout out to the those brands that see how much time and energy is spent putting a pitch together. They covered every penny ๐
Hereโs what happenedโฆ
The most common problems youโll see digital PR agencies do:
๐ get links on regional media only. Thatโs poor strategy, they have no idea how to get nationals, trade, niche sites or lifestyle publications to talk about you. I could fart and Doncaster today will cover it and link.
๐ get no follow links mostly. Tbh I donโt care that much about follow or no follow links. Aslong as someone clicks on it. But these are a result of the above. ๐ regional media mostly no follow and so does 60% of nationals within REACH NETWORK.
๐ run out of ideas and do basic indexโs like worst place to live if you have hay fever. I have a strong opinion that most of this is built for algorithms just to get a link and not built for people. Create campaigns and content people will engage with rather than live deep within an article no one reads
๐ PR teams telling you itโs getting harder to get coverage. Itโs really not. Thatโs bullshit. Theyโre just not innovating or thinking of stories that media WANT or creating useful content.
๐ creating campaigns that cost a fortune and only getting 2 links. Even if it did get 2 links at the beginning, it should then compound. It should earn links overtime. If it doesnโt, it wasnโt strong enough or evergreen. This again is a strategy weakness
๐ We moved away from just being famous for Digital PR and 82% of our clients now buy all our services from us (multi channel search) including social search, PR, seo, content.
๐ We launched into paid market with 2 big hires and were on track to hit target for our first 6 months in. Our current clients have moved from their networks to us and its going REALLY well
๐ We won incredible clients in the last 2 years, Redbull, Primark, Quorn, Morphy Richards, Axa health, birkenstock and so many more!
But things havent been rosie...
๐ Ive been through another MD that didnt work out. Ive figured id rather build my own MD than someone who says they can do it. Its a big tough job. Ive now got something in place thats working and I'm grateful
Seen as I havent posted on here a while...
I thought id give an unfiltered update on how I've been building @riseatseven for the last 2 years...
First of all - im happier, healthier than ever before. FUCK me - the growth of rise at seven and the bullshit I went through really had a toll on my health. I put on 4.5 stone!!!!! Ive now lost that again, im happy, i made big life choices and its paid off
๐ I made some big hires to build an army around me i deserve - SEO director from Kinesso/reprise, Head of Digital from PrettyLittleThing, Performance Director from Canada Goose, Delivery Director/lead from Social Chain. Will (my best friend and PR director) moved to NY to run that business. I have such a strong unit around me who love me, the business. I feel supported
๐ The business is performing to its highest revenue we've ever done - mostly driven by huge growth in the US. We've grown 16% as a group in revenue, 52% in the US. The UK saw small growth in the last year but that was always my plan. I wanted to focus on profit margin increase than rev
๐ margins on that are doing really well, but we've dropped margin the last 3 months as we've invested in 3 new big hires for organic (organic growth director, 2 senior organic strategists for EU and UK) as we go big ready for 2027. more on that to come
๐Our EU side of the business has grown massively. We recently won 4 global contracts for full service search/content/PR and weve just hired 5 new European people in germany and france (We now have a rise at seven EU entity) wooop
๐In the last 12 months we have built our own tech and its only the best ive ever seen - I have been SCREAMING for a better project management system, we built our own and named it DAWN. I also spent 12 months advising seo tools to build a social search tool, none of them could do it. So we built our own and its honestly unreal.
Ok more on the agencies stealing our case studies... yes THIS HAPPENS. All the time.
In pitches, agencies would talk through a case study , that was our work, and share every bit of detail. They wouldnt say "it was rise at seven who did this" they framed it in a way the client MAY believe it was their work because they knew every single bit about the campaigns
How? Because I openly shared it on here. From how the idea was formed, EXACTLY what we did to combat hurdles, step by step on how it became a success.
Funny thing is... we did a pitch for jdsports to win a global retainer. The client told us other agencies are using your case studies by the way. and it made us want to go with you more. We only knew it was rise at sevens work because you guys actually had the proof and the testimonials. Other agencies were saying they did it or hinting as if they did.
We won the JDsports brief
I stopped posting our work and case studies on here for a while. ๐ถ Here's why.
We found other agencies putting our case studies in their own pitch decks, presenting our work as examples of great industry thinking, without saying it wasn't theirs. ๐
We also found people copying the way we talk. Our slogans, our web copy, lifted almost word for word onto their own sites. ๐
Imitation's supposed to be flattery. But there's a difference between being inspired by good work and just taking someone else's thinking and execution and putting your name on it. ๐ค
So we went quiet on it for a bit. Not because we ran out of good work, but because we got tired of doing the work and watching someone else take the credit.
We're starting to share it again anyway. If people want to copy it, they can. We'll just keep making more.

28K followers, I havent posted actively for months.
A waste if not used
Starting to see people be more active on here... anyone else noticing the same?
