Tried this for myself today. Decided to assign points based on which tape their marbles crossed: Red is +5, yellow is +3, and blue is +1. Falls off the table without crossing a tape, -1 😂
Definitely doing this again!
Does anyone have experience teaching APC E&M over a year? I’m assuming most of us teach it in 1 semester, but I’m curious if any schools are offering it as a year long course.
@BonkPhysics Not even close. I do 3 weeks of 1D and then about another 3 of 2D. The suggested time definitely doesn’t feel appropriate considering how strong of a foundation we need to build during those lessons on motion!
@MrJoeMilliano@kilroi22 I recently discovered that a B field is an E field from a moving charges frame of reference due to special relativity and now I can’t wait to teach E&M again next spring!
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen someone post a resistivity lab involving conductive clay…
Anyone in the #iteachphysics community know what I’m talking about? 😇
I love watching students faces light up as they do electrostatics experiments. They may be the closest thing we have in the real world to magic. #iteachphysics
I’m trying to do the classic coffee filter lab with physics C to determine the drag coefficient of coffee filters but don’t have access to motion sensors…
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I’m thinking they can find v average for several tiny intervals?

Uniform Circular Motion lab apparatuses are a go! Shoutout to @fpoodry for helping me troubleshoot the upgrade to @VernierST GoDirect Force Probes and Photogates #iteachphysics
Also, thank you @BarnettDreyfuss for sharing your materials again! I found these targets in one of your folders and I’ve been using them for so many activities!
APC had to determine the muzzle speed of their projectile cannon and decide how to verify their results. Once they were ready, i assigned each team a launch angle so that they could predict where the marble would land.
Also, they could not use a stop watch to determine v :)
