The book of Joshua is a sobering reminder for us that it is a terrible, dreadful thing to fall under the wrath of the Living God. "The fear of the Lord," Scripture says, "is the beginning of wisdom." It is a wise thing to repent of sin and be saved from destruction.
It's also a reminder for us - indeed, a warning - that another, final judgement of sin is yet coming. Joshua's namesake is coming to judge the living and the dead. He will establish his kingdom on earth and rule the nations of the earth with a rod of iron.
And yet, not unjust.
It was the righteous judgment of God against sin, delivered through Israel. The Lord always provides safety and refuge for those who turn away from wickedness and seek his mercy in repentance. But many - even most - don't repent. Let that sink in.
Reading the book of Joshua again.
Man.
The Canaanite conquest was brutal. Men, women, children, animals - all killed. Whole tribes exterminated. Entire cities reduced to ash. It's easy to see why it can be a significant stumbling block for the faith of many. It's sad. Tragic.
@ChrisLaw It's bad, bro. Buffering through half of the first fight. Busted mics and ear pieces in the interview. Not a great first look for Netflix's first attempt at live sports.
@DennyBurk Is anyone really surprised by this? He has always believed that people will fall in line regardless of what he does. "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK? It's, like, incredible."
I’ve grown weary of self-appointed teachers, “reformers,” and shock-jock personalities pretending to be prophets and shepherds. Why does anyone listen to them? Stay close to your local church and pastors who are held accountable.
Thankful for a messenger, an attorney, reminding the messenger body that we’re not Amish living on some farm, and we cannot avoid all interaction with the world around us if we’re going to be salt/light witnesses for Christ IN THE WORLD.
Thank you, sister! #SBC22
