The way physics class teaches the development of ideas is like
1. You start with these thermodynamic energies (Gibbs 1873)
2. These let you figure out cycles to extract work (Carnot 1824)
3. Then with those ingredients in place, you can design a steam engine! (Watt 1776)
@BadWritingTakes@MAMelby JKR's argument here is something you would see in a high school textbook as an example of the motte-and-bailey fallacy, followed by "but of course no real-world writer would be this blatant."
@shaun_vids Somebody should secretly film themselves going to job interviews and listing, as their strengths, the things Biden supporters use to argue that Biden is still sharp enough to be president.
Me: Omg, he said “I’m not throwing away my shot” at the beginning, and then he died literally throwing away his shot!

Exciting news: @ReviewCommons is adopting a fully transparent preprint review process! Reviews & author responses will be posted on the preprint when manuscripts are transferred to a journal. https://t.co/SWXDOb2HSe
@GevaudanShoal @seananmcguire I also think it was basically all fanfiction. “Okay here’s a story I heard from Throg, only *this* time the monster fighter is secretly the sky god’s daughter.”
Anyone else find it disturbing to get a birthday marketing message from a healthcare provider?
Like I didn’t tell you my bday because we’re friends, you told me I had to before you’d let me access your UrgentCare.
I got an email from my son’s teacher letting me know that she is hosting a BTS night for the parents, and I was super excited until I realized she probably meant Back To School night.
@JakeYeston@sksilverman Well neither I think? If you lined up the whole gene of two siblings the overlap in base pairs would be much more than 50%, if you lined up the sequence for a human and a chimp it would be much less than 98%
@kuangrf Just think of when serials were popular - you could be half-way through writing your novel and be stuck with your original chapter 1 from a year ago because it was already published 😬
