Today we are back at Hopkins for outpatient surgery to work on some of reanimation of facial nerve. One of several steps to recovery.

Also, he has numbness inside mouth on right side which he experienced prior to surgery. Understand this will recover but time will tell.

During his surgery his facial nerve was damaged which causes facial palsy (no motor skills such as smile, blinking, etc) or the right side.

Cary has been steady with recovery this week. Physically he is doing well, strong. The head is going to take a while to recover.

Cary got out of hospital today and home at 4:30 today. Pretty amazing to be home 4 days after surgery. Spent the day waiting for discharge.

Cary ate breakfast this morning (relearning how to eat). Took 2 walks 1/2 lap and full lap of 12 floor east. AWESOME!!

Cary is going to have platinum installed in right eye lid tomorrow (to help him blink). Dr talked about going home over weekend possibly.

Cary no longer on IV pain and nausea meds. All by pill now (monitor closer to manage pain). Dr took away walker - directed to walk alone.

Cary was able to eat today a hard boiled egg, banana and some orange. Able to walk to restroom with walker. Reducing pain and nausea meds.

Cary is more comfortable this afternoon than morning. Maritza not giving him any slack - tough love.

Today was a long day mostly resting and recovery. Highlights: out of critical care unit into room 12east71. Removed catheter (LOVED THAT!!).

Got up earlier. Got nautious, sat back down. Under pain management regimen and nausea medication. A day long surgery takes a lot out of you.

The other nerves were strained but in tact.

but not to remove the remaining tumor would have created greater medical risks.
Cranial nerve VIII was damaged beyond

was not able to save the facial nerve which will causes facial paralysis of the right side. This was a priority for Cary

Surgery is complete and Cary is in recovery.
Due to the bloody nature of the tumor he had to take all of it out. In turn he

Facial nerve (5) stretched but in tact. Neurosurgeon starting to close him up. Another hour +/-. Hope to see him tonight but don't know.
