After tracing the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) President by President, from seed planted in 1956 to today's assertive defense, one truth stands clear:

Only one President formally created and annexed KIG: Ferdinand Marcos Sr. via PD 1596 (1978), declaring it Philippine territory and a municipality under Palawan. No President after him has repealed, withdrawn, or surrendered it. Sovereignty endures unbroken.

Later Presidents either:
🔹 Defended it militarily (Ramos patrols & jets at Mischief Reef; Estrada grounding BRP Sierra Madre; Marcos Jr. expanded AFP/PCG presence).
🔹 Strengthened it legally (Cory's 1987 Constitution locked it in; RA 9522 baselines; PNoy's 2016 arbitral win invalidating nine-dash line; Marcos Jr.'s RA 12064 Maritime Zones Act cementing KIG as regime of islands under PH sovereignty).
🔹 Or maintained it administratively (Aquino civilian focus; Arroyo DOC diplomacy; Duterte Pag-asa upgrades like runway/port, presence & residents intact).

💡 THE POINT: Across decades, parties, and challenges, KIG has been asserted, protected, and built upon. No "give up" ever happened because it's sovereign Philippine territory: established by effective occupation, laws, continuous administration, and international rulings. To abandon it now would reverse consistent national will.

KIG is ours, by history, law, and resolve. Stand firm. 🇵🇭

Itutulak ni House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, katuwang si Sen. Migz Zubiri, na maisama sa LEDAC priority measures ang panukalang pagbuwag sa travel tax.

Ayon kay Marcos, nagkausap na sila ni Sen. Zubiri, na nangakong ihahain ang counterpart measure sa Senado.

Sa susunod na linggo, sa pulong ng LEDAC, ay kapwa nila ilalatag ang panukala sa Pangulo.

Sabi ni Marcos, outdated at hassle ang travel tax para sa mga biyaherong Pilipino maging sa mga foreign visitors.

Naniniwala siya na upang mapalakas ang turismo at ekonomiya, hindi travel tax ang solusyon.

Sa pangamba naman ng ilan na mawawalan ng pondo ang ilang ahensyang umaasa sa travel tax, sinabi ni Marcos na iginagalang niya ang alinlangan ni Tourism Sec. Christina Frasco.

Gayunman, aniya, ang Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) ay palaging may mababang disbursement at hindi gaanong nagagamit nang maayos ang pondo.

Katunayan, mas malaki pa raw ang multiplier effect sa ekonomiya kung aalisin ang travel tax, kumpara sa mga proyektong pinopondohan ng TIEZA.

Pagdating naman sa higher education, nangako aniya si Finance Sec. Frederick Go na hahanapan ito ng bagong pagkukunan ng pondo at suportado rin ng kalihim ang panukala na tuluyang buwagin ang travel tax. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
