Service has shaped nearly every chapter of Ted Eichholz’s adult life, from the U.S. Navy to law enforcement, emergency management, veterans organizations and local government.
The assistant chief of police at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has spent more than three decades in public-facing roles centered on protecting and supporting others, including military service in the 1990s. Since joining UNK Police in 2011, Eichholz has worked as a patrol officer, emergency management coordinator and parking coordinator.

Today we said goodbye to two of the most dedicated Lopers 🤘
Dr. Paul Twigg came to UNK in 1992 as a Biology professor and is the current dean of the @cas_unk
Dr. Janet Steele came to campus in 1993 as a Biology professor and has held various different roles across campus including her favorite, scorekeeper for UNK home volleyball matches.
With 67 years of combined experience these two have demonstrated what it means to be a Loper and we can't thank them enough for their service to our campus!

Carter Schultz, who recently earned a degree in applied health sciences with a minor in public health, is part of the inaugural cohort of students enrolled in the @UNMCCOM pharmacy program based at the recently opened Health Science Education Center II. Upon completion of his pharmacy degree, he wants to begin his career at a smaller, community pharmacy where he can create meaningful connections with patients.
“I love small-town Nebraska,” Schultz said. “I want to go back, not necessarily to Doniphan (Schultz hometown), but to a small town because that’s where I want to raise a family someday. The small-town feel brings a lot of charm and has definitely shaped me into who I am today. I don’t think you can get a true Nebraska experience unless you’re going to one of these small schools.”

Leighlynn Towne is a big believer in the value of higher education.
“I’ve really seen education open doors for me,” the Grand Island native said.
Now living outside Curtis, she traveled to UNK last week to receive her master’s degree in biology during the spring commencement ceremony. That accomplishment is already opening another door.
With her master’s, Towne will advance from lecturer to assistant professor of veterinary technology at the @NCTACurtis, where she also serves as head coach of the stock dog team.

Standing in front of a large crowd gathered to celebrate the future of rural healthcare education in Nebraska, Allie Daro reflected on the path that brought her back to Kearney.
Just a few years ago, she was a UNK student preparing for a career in medicine through the Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP). On Thursday, she returned as a fourth-year medical student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center – and the current @UNMCCOM student regent – to speak during a dedication ceremony for the Douglas A. Kristensen Rural Health Education Complex.
“It truly is a great place to live, a great place to work and a great place to call home,” she said. “I think it’s a really beautiful full-circle moment knowing more students can stay in the area they call home and contribute to the communities that supported them when they were growing up.”
