BMC has launched its ‘Pedestrian First’ campaign in Mumbai to remove illegal hawkers and encroachments from footpaths, beginning with 320 km in the first phase. Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide today inspected the drive in K West (Andheri west) and P South (Goregaon) wards, with priority given to the busy SV Road–Ram Ganesh Gadkari Marg stretch leading to Cooper Hospital due to heavy pedestrian and ambulance movement.

पदपथांवरील अनधिकृत फेरीवाले व अतिक्रमणे तत्काळ हटवून पदपथ अडथळामुक्त करण्यासाठी 'पेडेस्ट्रियन फर्स्ट' (Pedestrian First) अभियान बृहन्मुंबईत प्रभावीपणे राबविण्याचे निर्देश महानगरपालिका आयुक्त श्रीमती अश्विनी भिडे यांनी नुकतेच दिले आहेत.

या अभियाना��ी पाहणी करण्यासाठी महानगरपालिका आयुक्त श्रीमती अश्विनी भिडे यांनी पश्चिम उपनगरातील ��के पश्चिम’ आणि ‘पी दक्षिण’ विभागात आज सकाळी प्रत्यक्ष भेट देऊन पाहणी केली.

विले पार्ले परिसरातील स्वामी विवेकानंद मार्गावरून राम गणेश गडकरी मार्गाद्वारे कूपर रुग्णालयाकडे मोठ्या प्रमाणात रुग्णांची व रुग्णवाहिकांची ये-जा असते. तसेच, या मार्गावरून महाविद्यालयीन विद्यार्थ्यांची देखील मोठ्या प्रमाणात ये-जा असते. त्यामुळे, या मार्गावरील अतिक्रमण हटविण्यासाठी प्राधान्य देण्यात आल�� आहे.

'पेडेस्ट्रियन फर्स्ट' (Pedestrian First) अभियान अंतर्गत पहिल्या टप्प्यात ३२० किलोमीटर लांबीच्या पदपथांवरील अतिक्रमण संपूर्णतः हटवून नागरिकांना सुलभ चालता यावे, यासाठी उपलब्ध करून देण्यात येणार आहेत.

या अनुषंगाने, महानगरपालिका आयुक्त श्रीमती अश्विनी भिडे यांनी विले पार्ले (पश्चिम) परिसरात राम गणेश गडकरी मार्ग आणि स्वामी विवेकानंद मार्गे (एस. व्ही. रोड) परिसरात पदपंथांची आज प्रत्यक्ष पा��णी केली.

या अभियानाच्या प��िल्या टप्प्यात ‘के पश्चिम’ विभागातील एकूण ३५५ मार्गांपैकी २७ मार्ग हाती घेण्यात आले आहेत. या २७ मार्गांवरील ३७.७ किलोमीटर इतके अंतर अतिक्रमणमुक्त करण्यात येत आहेत.

पदपथांवरील अनधिकृत फेरीवाले, अतिक्रमणे व इतर सर्व प्रकारचे अडथळे तत्काळ हटवून पदपथ पूर्णपणे अडथळामुक्त करावेत. तसेच, पदपथांची सुधारणा, सुशोभीकरण आणि सुरक्षिततेच्या दृष्टीने आवश्यक उपाययोजना तातडीने राबवाव्यात, असे स��्त निर्देश महानगरपालिका आयुक्त श्रीमती अश्विनी भिडे यांनी दिले.

यावेळी सह आयुक्त (परिमंडळ- ४) डॉ. भाग्यश्री कापसे, उपायुक्त (आयुक्त कार्यालय) श्री. प्रशांत गायकवाड, सहायक आयुक्त (पी दक्षिण विभाग) श्री. कुंदन वळवी आदी उपस्थित होते.
