VIDEO COLUMN (2): The Hormuz question.
What's happening in the world's most important oil and LNG chokepoint? Let me explain the situation in the strait, and how its shipping lines (and status) are changing, perhaps for ever.

@Alea_ Thanks but Not so clear: the 2023 statute creates a direct constitutional clash over treaty withdrawal that courts have never definitively resolved. With mixed historical practice and no clear precedent, either side could plausibly win, leaving the outcome uncertain.

OIL MARKET: Donald Trump sets tall conditions to impose any sanctions on Russia. It’s a cynic tactic as he knows well that others won’t accept.
But, and it pains me to say, he’s not 100% wrong: Europe continues buying Russian oil and natural gas.
Trump presses NATO nations to halt Russian oil purchases
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a letter to NATO nations on Saturday, urging them to stop buying Russian oil and impose major sanctions on Russia to end its war in Ukraine.
"I am ready to do major sanctions on Russia when all NATO nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO nations stop buying oil from Russia," he said in a social media post.
He proposed that NATO, as a group, place 50-100% tariffs on China to weaken its economic grip over Russia.(Reuters)

@Alea_ It is likely that part of the euro area’s May 2025 trade surplus reflects accelerated exports to the U.S. ahead of steep August tariffs, especially in vulnerable industrial sectors. Future trade data will likely show a slowdown after the tariffs are imposed.
