Even today, any honorable woman would choose Jauhar over becoming a slave to Islamic invaders. Rani Padmavati and thousands of women made the supreme sacrifice of Jauhar to protect their dignity from barbaric invaders, choosing death over a life of forced slavery. @ReallySwara can't understand that.#SwaraBhaskar
Appealing Hon’ble BJP MPs of #Odisha to challenge and call for a reversal of the amendment made in the #MMDR Act that takes away the powers of the Odisha Govt. Our Parliament is the highest temple of Indian democracy. As a member of Parliament, you are the voice of Odisha in this highest forum of democracy.
The people of Odisha elected you in good faith to protect and further their interests. It is therefore a matter of utmost concern that you voted in favour of one of the most arbitrary legislations that will have far reaching adverse implications for the people of Odisha who put their trust in you.
August 13th which saw the passage of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha with your support was a black day for Odisha. The Bill was passed with less than ten minutes of discussion in the Lok Sabha, despite having provisions with far reaching implications for the people of Odisha.
This was not an ordinary piece of legislation. Odisha undoubtedly will be the worst affected by this legislation. As you are well aware, Odisha accounts for nearly 44% of India's mineral wealth. For decades, Odisha has contributed its mineral wealth to the building of India's steel, power, mining and infrastructure sectors. India stands taller and stronger today because of the immense contribution made by Odisha and her people.
The estimated annual loss would be more than ₹12,000 crores leading to lakhs of crores of rupees over time. But the bigger loss is that in a single legislative stroke the control over our own minerals and our mineral bearing lands was taken away from us. And this happened under your watch.
This law is an injustice to the children and youth of Odisha, whose future is linked to the resources and opportunities of this State. It is an injustice to the people of Odisha who bear the pollution, displacement, environmental degradation and the hazards and hardships of mining.
And, above all, it is an injustice to the dream of an empowered Odisha, that has the confidence and resources to determine its own future. I earnestly appeal to you to listen to your conscience and think about the future generations of Odisha.
History remembers and honours those who raise their voices when injustice is done to their people and resources. History will judge you not by the party you stood with, but by whether you stood up for Odisha when it mattered most. You are standing at a historic juncture with a choice to stand and fight for the state and the people who sent you to the Lok Sabha with a mandate to protect their interests. I leave it to your judgment.

Respected Mr Dharmendra Pradhan may be it’s time for you to check the naked reality of Odisha
I know you have enough money to travel Europe and you can visit these mining places
Kiruna of Sweden 🇸🇪
Mo i Rana of Norway 🇳🇴
and Outokumpu of Finland 🇫🇮
Just check even in google how these cities vibrant ecosystem and progress.
These mining towns thrive with green tech, modern infrastructure, clean processes and real local development with world class tourism.
Now compare them to any mining belt in Odisha , Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Joda , Barbil. Polluted air and water, death trap roads, water crisis, health issues, and decades of neglect.
The people pay the real price while the wealth leaves.
The MMDR Bill 2026 just makes it worse. It strips the state of power to tax mineral rights and lands, risks thousands of crores in revenue, and voids past dues.
We are simply giving open permission to loot Odisha’s natural resources.
We odia’s are innocent, some of us are not much intelligent like you politicians, we are not much educated either but ask your heart once is this bill will assist our common citizens ?
Even your own heart will say No , we can also understand your situation and pressure from your central leadership, remember the biggest leader ever Odisha produced was Naveen Patnaik and people of Odisha eliminated him thinking of a prosperous Odisha which leads with Odia centric attitude.
Same way its matter for you and your leadership to take this matter seriously or else Odia people know how to give response in correct time.
They didn’t spare legendary leader like Naveen , then what about you guys ?
The government collects an Education & Health Cess on every single tax. Yet government schools, colleges and hospitals remain in terrible shape. Where is our taxpayer money actually going?
As of March 31, 2024, ₹43,426.35 crore collected health cess was kept back by the Centre in the Consolidated Fund instead of being deployed to public healthcare.Stop stealing from Indian taxpayers under the guise of welfare. We demand full accountability. @PMOIndia@nsitharaman@narendramodi #Schoolthikkaro #Hospitalthikkaro #CJP @FinMinIndia
#Odisha couldn’t use that ₹1 lakh crore earlier because the money was legally stuck for 20 years locked behind court battles over the ORISED Act. The State finally won in the Supreme Court in 2024, and the dues were scheduled to start flowing from April 2026. But before a single rupee could reach Odisha, the BJP government stepped in and wiped the entire amount away with #MMDR Amendment .
Every vote counts. Pause and remember all this before voting next time.
Wrote to Hon’ble Prime Minister @PMOIndia Shri @narendramodi Ji urging reconsideration of provisions in the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 that restrict the constitutional taxation powers of States over mineral rights and mineral-bearing lands.
Parliament on Thursday (August 13, 2026) passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to restrict states' powers to levy taxes on mineral rights and mineral-bearing lands.

Industry and state-level estimates suggest Odisha could lose around Rs 12,000 crore in annual mineral-related revenue and over Rs 1 trillion in outstanding dues.

Look at the numbers.
Odisha's 2026–27 Budget estimates Rs. 71,000 crore in own non-tax revenue, of which Rs. 53,000 crore nearly 75% is expected from mining. The State's own FRBM documents separately project mining revenue at around Rs. 56,000 crore.
Mining is therefore not just another source of income for Odisha. It is one of the foundations of the state's fiscal capacity.
The MMDR Amendment Bill, 2026 now restricts States from imposing specified taxes, cesses and other levies on mineral rights and mineral bearing land, except according to conditions or restrictions prescribed by the Centre. More seriously, unpaid or unrecovered past dues relating to such levies are deemed invalid, while amounts already recovered will not be refunded.
So what does Odisha potentially lose?
1. Future fiscal flexibility
2. Past mineral related dues
3. Control over mineral bearing land taxation
4. Greater dependence on the Centre
And remember what mining leaves behind in Odisha:
displacement, pollution, damaged roads and infrastructure, environmental degradation and pressure on local communities.
If Odisha is expected to bear these costs, why should its ability to raise revenue from the resources extracted from its own territory be progressively restricted?
Odisha contributes enormously to India's mineral economy.
We cannot accept a model where the minerals leave Odisha, the environmental and social costs stay in Odisha, but the State's fiscal powers over those resources are progressively taken away.
Odisha must defend its mineral wealth, its revenue and its federal rights.
