Just two nights ago, a woman was hit by a car riding her bike a block away on the same street.

@CaltransOC is the reason Costa Mesa can’t make improvements to Newport Blvd., so I want them to explain why prioritizing freeway throughput is more important than Costa Mesa’s safety.

This is downtown Costa Mesa. This is the same stretch that @CaltransOC told us was safe, that painted bike lanes would be sufficient and lowering speeds would just cause traffic. One of their engineers looked me in the eye and told me his priority was safety.
