Mr. Rufai Oseni, today marks 134 days since schoolchildren were abducted from Mussa, Askira-Uba, Borno State.

134 days of fear. 134 days of waiting. 134 days of unanswered questions.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum have both been called upon by the children’s families to intensify efforts to secure their release. The Federal Government has also said that security agencies are working to rescue them. Yet, for the families, the most important thing remains the safe return of their children.

Mr. President, how much longer must these families wait? Governor Zulum, how much longer must parents continue to live without knowing when their children will return home?

Government promises must be followed by urgent and effective action. These are children, not statistics. Their parents deserve answers, and the children deserve to come home safely.

President Tinubu and Governor Zulum, the families are still waiting. Nigeria is still watching. Please do everything within your power to bring these children home.

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN FROM ABUSE

We continue to receive disturbing reports about the plight of vulnerable children in Almajiri schools across the North Central region. The latest report from Bashi Village, Bakeko Community in Katcha LGA, Niger State, sheds light on a deeply troubling case involving Dokoci Asagara Tabo, a young child allegedly subjected to physical abuse, forced labor, and neglect in the care of an Islamic teacher.

According to an eyewitness, children in the school endure severe hardships, including beatings, chaining, and deprivation of food and medical care. Some as young as five are forced into labor, denied the dignity and compassion every child deserves. Efforts to engage the local religious leader responsible for the school have not yielded results, and those speaking out face intimidation.

We recognize the deep cultural and religious roots of the Almajiri system, which, when properly managed, provides valuable Islamic education. However, cases like this undermine its noble intent, exposing children to harm rather than nurturing them in a safe environment.

The well-being of every Nigerian child must be a collective responsibility government, religious leaders, and community members must work together to ensure that no child suffers under the guise of education.
We urge relevant authorities, religious institutions, and community leaders to step up efforts to reform the Almajiri system, ensuring that these children receive not just religious knowledge, but also care, protection, and a pathway to a brighter future.
