In Louisiana, individuals convicted of a sex crime against a child may soon face the possibility of being mandated to undergo surgical castration alongside serving a prison sentence.

This development follows Louisiana lawmakers granting final approval to a bill that grants judges the discretion to sentence individuals to surgical castration following their conviction for specific aggravated sex crimes.

This includes rape, incest, and molestation against a child younger than 13.
