Do you remember when radio stations used to give away concert tickets and backstage passes? | just heard a midday radio giveaway, and now the prizes are groceries, a year of gas, or rent paid. It's a strange reminder that survival has become the prize. That's pretty sad.
Mamdani’s Halloween plans for NYC are fantastic 🎃
The city is opening a record 160 car-free streets and plazas across all five boroughs for free Halloween fun, with trick-or-treating, games, face painting, live entertainment and even neighborhood walking tours. NYC DOT is handing out 75,000 pieces of candy, and there’ll be events at public schools too.
Safe streets, happy kids and neighborhoods coming together. This is what it looks like when city government makes public spaces work for everyone. Great stuff for New York!

NAOMI KLIEIN to SAM ALTMAN:
"...you ingested the entire written output of human civilization without consent, without compensation and without credit to build a system whose primary commercial application is eliminating the jobs of the people whose work you consumed.
You are not 'liberating human creativity' -- you are strip-mining it and selling it back at a markup while calling the theft 'training data'."

As details about the Cornell 7 come out, it’s once again time to remember that less than 2% of rapists see jail time, which means: rape is effectively legal in America.

There’s an unexpected power to prayer, even if you don’t believe in God. The key to unlocking these benefits? Honest speech. @caspertk writes about this and more in his monthly Vox column, Soul Searching.

Every year I help organize a large conference called Restore. Imagine a Christian TED festival with heapings of music and art. This year’s gathering is next week, September 24-26 at Utah Valley University.
The lineup this year is phenomenal. A few sessions I’m especially excited for are:
@mckaycoppins on the transhumanist theology of the tech bros
Tara Isabella Burton on finding Christ in our age of religious remixing
Mallory Everton on how faith alchemizes tragedy
Steven Nelson of The Piano Guys previewing his new musical on the abolition of the slave trade
Casper ter Kuile on how to build a ritual life
Plus talks on spiritual imagination, UFO’s, building Zion, giving up smartphones, and the dawning of a new spiritual renaissance
I’d love for you to join me. You can register at https://t.co/hIAZd01OHm and get 20% off by using the code ZACH. And if you want to come and the cost is a barrier, just message me.
