Nossa Senhora das Dores, 15 de setembro

A devoção a Nossa Senhora das Dores, também chamada "Mater Dolorosa", desenvolveu se a partir do final do século XI e foi fixada no calendário litúrgico romano em 1814, pelo papa Pio VII. A data de 15 de setembro, um dia após a Exaltação da Santa Cruz, foi confirmada por São Pio X.

O Evangelho de João narra que, junto à Cruz, estavam Maria e outras mulheres, quando Jesus, olhando para sua mãe e para o discípulo amado, disse: "Mulher, eis o teu filho", e depois: "Eis a tua Mãe". A partir daquele momento, o discípulo a acolheu como sua própria mãe. Ao chamá la de "Mulher", Jesus remete a Eva, apresentando Maria como a nova Eva, e o discípulo, segundo a tradição, representa toda a Igreja, confiada aos cuidados maternos de Maria.

Maria é, assim, Mãe e também discípula fiel, que permaneceu de pé junto à Cruz até o fim, vivendo em silêncio a espada anunciada por Simeão, que atravessaria seu coração.
