New coach Sam Mayes is hoping to resurrect North Adelaide's season after taking over from the sacked Jacob Surjan. Mayes' first game in charge will be against his old side Port Adelaide on Saturday. @johncasey2880#7NEWS
There you go, another loved one sharing their experiences with concussion in sport - it’s an issue at all levels.
Better management, guidance and support is needed for those affected and their families. https://t.co/fNzmN2k79q
It’s been a week. I’ve felt every bit of why people find it so hard to share their own experiences. But I’ve mostly felt supported. Let’s not stop talking about concussion.
Sam Mayes' partner has opened up on the ex-utility's battle with head knocks during his time at the Power.

The @AFL concussion controversy doesn’t surprise me… it makes me sick. Sam’s played concussed after they strapped his head and sent him back on the field. He’s also pulled himself out of the AFL side as he wasn’t feeling right from a seperate head knock. It’s scary to witness 💔
@coza07@N_Watson_@AFL_House@samskinner21 I’ll read the actual allegations without Port’s spin covering it up thanks 😉 I’ve listened to Koch denigrate Mayes’ partner for talking about it, which was disgusting on Koch’s behalf. I’d be horrified if I was a relative or partner of a Port player.
@FridgeyDidgey@AFL Concussion causes impairment of cognitive function hence why there are protocols in place to test players following a head knock… to protect them from themselves. Unfortunately these tests aren’t always carried out.
Welcome home Sam!
The North Adelaide Football Club is excited to announce that Sam Mayes will return to the Roosters for season 2023 🐔

Extremely grateful to be involved in @AFLAuskick for kids living with disability. Thanks to the @goodysaints for allowing me to be involved, @Norts1974 for organising and the families and carers for creating such an amazing program. Absolutely loved being apart of it.
@heywood_dean @jhudson_10 @sammayes7@PAFC That’s your opinion. Can be outstanding to some and not others. He was outstanding in every part of the “run” - on field, off field, as a leader to younger players, as a good club man. And having a contract, or not, isn’t the best measure of that.
.@pafc players are getting in some extra training sessions running coaching clinics for kids with disabilities. It is a cause close to the heart of midfielder Sam Mayes who watched his brother miss out on the opportunities he was given. https://t.co/8ftPfGh39Y @kimberleypratt_
