@seansmegaphone@combat_yeoman@ThomasSowell And just because someone touches you doesn’t mean you can hit them. A lawyer would say it has to do with how you perceive her threat. Say a 90 yo grandma or a 4 yo kid pushed you, wonder how knocking them out would hold up in court (probably not well)
@jpotteiger@JoshWalkos Tho, back when the UN was first freaking out in the 70's it was cooling, and I'd be curious if cooling or warming is worse. Because we all know what happens during cooling...
@harrylitman Just curious, is this something that a jury is supposed to take into account? If not, what happens when juries base their decisions on factors like this? I assume there are fancy words to explain when a jury bases a decision on factors that are irrelevant to the case?
@ianmiles Ian, ‘people’ are like this. It’s a childish mindset to generalize about specific groups of people. I’m a cyclist, this guy is a prick. Anyone who rides in NYC knows that we all break rules: cyclists&pedestrians. I adjust & all the cyclists I know adjust instead of being a nanny
@Fame21Moore@zerohedge @Pablo_01618 Anecdotally, a guy was going to bring power to nyc from nj. Bought land. Was going to build a generator. Installed pipe through the Hudson. Tested pipe. Pipe leaked. Contractors pointed fingers at each other. Too costly to solve. Project abandoned.
@Fame21Moore@zerohedge @Pablo_01618 The basic issue is that you need to transport high voltages over long distances then you need substations with transformers to convert to safe voltages for home use. Read up on the issues those two concepts pose.
@Fame21Moore@zerohedge @Pablo_01618 Maybe one area changes and starts having a much larger demand than it used to. Now you need to figure out how to divert power from one area to that area. You are always working with a fixed ‘supply’ based on infrastructure but have constantly shifting demands
@Fame21Moore@zerohedge @Pablo_01618 I just know about this issue, but not saying it’s the only reason grid management is complicated. Basically remember that electricity is like building water pipe networks, where you try to anticipate demands by areas, but you might not always estimate it correctly, or…
@Fame21Moore@zerohedge @Pablo_01618 Transporting High voltages requires the three phases be insulated from each other, by ‘space’ (those huge power lines you see in the country) or in oil insulated pipes (like here in NYC). Places like NYC are then running low of space for the transformers to convert.
@LFFriedman@SominiSengupta @meddynyt I’m curious how no one saw this energy crisis coming back in q3-4 2021 when my amateur friend did.Been amusing for us to see everyone blaming Russia/global warming. Maybe prematurely forcing dependence on renewables & increasing relative dependence on Russia was a bad move?
@barstoolsports Everyone here getting all serious lol but then reading management books about eliminating wasteful meetings and cutting back on unnecessary emails going yeah man yeah man
@kristineberz@apmassaro3@kristineberz I’m not finding what ‘cooperation’ in this situation means, can you illuminate? My simplistic understanding is something like: EU is in an energy crisis, Russia has ability to ease crisis, now’s a good time to invade Ukraine with that bargaining chip in hand.
