No one has been able to stop Putin. Only Trump remains, he might be able to. But to stop Putin, one thing is essential: he must lose money. Only then will he be unable to expand his army and military sector.

That’s why sanctions matter: targeting the banking sector, the shadow fleet, and oil prices. Capping the price of Russian energy is critical, because oil is their main source of income. What happens in the Middle East is now driving oil prices up, and that, in turn, affects Europe’s security. That’s why oil price caps are such a powerful tool.

Sanctions are powerful, when enforced. If loopholes are closed, missile components, including for ballistic systems, simply won’t reach Russia. Sanctions aren’t just about money. They’re about stopping the flow of deadly technology, the parts that enable Russia to produce these horrific weapons at scale.

Rescue operations are currently underway in Odesa following another Russian strike on the city's energy infrastructure. Once again, civilian energy facilities have been targeted – for nearly three years now, the Russian army has relentlessly used missiles and attack drones against them.

Just yesterday, after the notorious meeting in Riyadh, it became clear that Russian representatives were once again lying, claiming they do not target Ukraine’s energy sector. Yet, almost simultaneously, they launched another attack, with drones striking electrical transformers. And this is during winter – it was minus 6 degrees Celsius at night.

At least 160,000 Odesa residents are now without heat and electricity. Thirteen schools, a kindergarten, and several hospitals have also been left without power or heating. Repair crews are working tirelessly, and all municipal services are engaged. I am grateful to every rescuer and to everyone helping people.

We must never forget that Russia is ruled by pathological liars – they cannot be trusted and must be pressured. For the sake of peace.
