On 07-23-23, at approximately 7:38 pm, Deputies responded to the area of Lakeview Drive in rural Freeman for a shooting. Upon arrival they found Edward Demoussett (65) from Freeman, deceased.
A person of interest was taken into custody. Investigation is ongoing.
Congratulations are in order for Joshua Becker-Schutte who has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Deputies responded to the area of 32200 179th Street in rural Pleasant Hill for a person lying under a tree. The suspect ran on foot. He was apprehended by K9 Riko. Brian K. Dills (45) from Kingsville Missouri, was arrested on a Johnson County Missouri felony warrant.
On Thursday evening, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office conducted Operation AWARE to ensure registered sex offenders were in compliance.
60 offenders contacted
51 were in compliance
5 required additional information
4 were found to be non-compliant.
UPDATE:
Investigators believe the victim was walking on D Hwy and was struck by a vehicle around 9:00 pm July 4th.
The victim has been identified and his name will be released after contacting the next of kin.

Deputies are currently on scene of a death investigation on D Highway just north of 215th Street in rural Belton.
D Highway will be closed between 203rd and 215th until further notice. Additional information will be provided when available.
The Western Missouri Sheriff’s Critical Incident Investigation Team has identified the suspect as Wayne Edwin Simmons, 54, El Dorado Springs, MO.
Simmons was shot and killed Wednesday morning, June 14, after shooting at members of the Barton and Cedar County Sheriff’s Office.
Today the Western Missouri Sheriff's Critical Incident Investigation Team was contacted by Dade County Sheriff to assist with the investigation of an officer involved shooting in Dade County.

On Thursday evening we served a search warrant in the 600 block of N. Independence St. in Harrisonville related to the possession & distribution of child pornography.
Detectives seized evidence from the apartment and arrested Rusty Wade Fisher Jr, 31, of Harrisonville.

On 06-24-22, at approximately 11:07am, Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on J Hwy. A pursuit ensued. The @PeculiarPolice deployed a tire deflation device on the vehicle. The vehicle stopped on the I-49 ramp. One subject was taken into custody.
For the second Friday in a row, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist deputies with the Miami County Kansas Sheriff’s Office pursuing a vehicle that crossed into Missouri around 11:50am.
A male driver was taken into custody.
