Christmas has come early for Australian trainer Paul Preusker after his horse, which bears the same name, took out the Ben & Ryan Foote Racing Great New Zealand Steeplechase (6200m) at Te Aroha on Sunday.

@MitchEllis67@AusJumpsRacing@nzracingnews@NZJumpsRacing@MelbRacingClub In a cool link to your interview with Brett Scott, they are jumping at Hawera in NZ today, which I think is where Scotty said he made his jumps riding debut. The mighty hurdler Happy Star finally goes after a maiden chase!! Exciting to see such an honest hurdler go to fences
@CiaranMeagher3 Don’t discount Michael Hollick to make the cut / top South African. He played superb golf in Australia in our key sand belt tournaments last Summer. Topped off his prep with a nerveless win 🏅 n Germany last week
@TravTurf By definition, a feature race should not be scrapped. Will connections of stern idol be compensated? I think a spectacular one horse walkover by the big Irish bred 9yo million
Dollar earner would be awesome
@MitchEllis67@RacingPedigrees Imagine the publicity generated world wide if they ran the race as a walkover for first prize! I reckon big 18 hands stern idol would go global as the champ no one wanted to take on!
@betsy_com_au@MitchEllis67 Absolutely with you on Sunday Buzz. The firmer course proper should suit him too! Have you seen a track rating for the Chase course? It’s often wetter through the paddocks

🚨Traralgon Jumps Trials Report🚨
The Cunning Fox - The four-time feature hurdle winner returned with a pleasing, quiet trial in Heat 2. He jumped cleanly throughout and finished third, suggesting he’s come back in good order.
Bitcoin – The two-time hurdle winner made a nice return in Heat 1 for @bartonequine. He looked to cruise to the line and he’s one to follow when he returns as he has loads of ability.
Split – Also returned in Heat 1, he jumped well and looks set to be a handy second season jumper.
Ardakan – Had a spin around in Heat 5 for @cmaherracing and appeared to show improvement in his jumping. There’s a race there for him somewhere.
Morryl Moral - Was an impressive winner of Heat 3 again for the Ciaron Maher stable. He looked like a natural jumper and hopefully can be a race day jumping maiden soon enough.
Lucky Chance - Jumped well and raced home nicely to win the last trial for Eric Musgrove. He’s worth following as he goes Steeplechasing we know Eric is a fantastic trainer and he’ll bob up in a big race somewhere at massive odds and run well.
Upcoming Jumps Meetings

@MitchEllis67 I’m enjoying the NZ jumps. Lots of quirky race preparations too, to evaluate. What about Lae Zee, first up 1200m win, second up 3100m hurdle!
@Racing_Previews Sterne Idol must be a risk with the 76.5kg. In the 2025 Australian chase, leaderboard chased him hard up the straight. Sterne held him but was tired. Carried 73.5kg last year. SI is a champ in these non marathon chases. I’d love to see him chasing in the UK.
