@Bbmorg In all honesty, does the cost really matter? If they weren't spending it on that the gov would simply waste it on something else.
Of more concern is the level of abuse of a system designed for those fleeing danger by economic migrants and vagrants who are simply gaming the system
@SaraJacobsCA Biological men have no place in womens sports, or intimate spaces. There is absolutely no reason, trans people can't have their own category for sports in the same way biological men and women do.
@Afolleso@zarahsultana I'm not saying its not abhorrent, I'm saying the Gaza situation is very low down on most British people's list of priorities, and that politicians that want to give it primacy rather than focusing on the electorates priorities should do so from a platform that supports that.
@andrew_lilico Unfreeze the tax free allowance, link it to inflation, immediately lift it to the level of full time minimum wage. Makes it a real living wage.
Instant cash in low paid pockets, no inflationary pressure on business. Lifts potentially millions out of the need for in-work welfare.
@RealTokenomist@SkEdwards1056 If my kids were still school age I would absolutely be pushing them toward a manual trade. Definitely something they can do for themselves rather than rely on employment from someone else.
@RealTokenomist@SkEdwards1056 Yes, but quite honestly I think the scope of Uni education is going to change radically in the coming years as AI and automation impacts many fields that traditionally hoovered up graduates. The current system for student debt with interest is more like private funding anyway.
@RealTokenomist@SkEdwards1056 If they are bonefide charities of course.
However if they are charging a fixed fee for schooling to their pupils they are selling a direct service, as opposed to providing schooling for anyone that qualifies and simply being funded by unspecified donations.
@ClarksonsFarm1 The 76 heatwave was compounded by a conplete lack of rain for well over a month.
Fortunately while its been really hot for about a week its also been nice and damp.
Garden is loving it.
@omgsidewalks Its generally used to describe a job that can be done with minimal training or qualifications, it has very little to do with the amount of effort involved.
If its a position that anyone can do within a few days of recruitment , there's little scope for negotiation to raise pay.
@NoJusticeMTG We've had a few days of unseasonably warm weather. The problem isn't the heat, the problems start with a sustained lack of rainfall which dry things out, and we've had plenty of rain.
Its not the heat that starts fires, its generally people that start fires.
@RPMComo The 'productive' middle classes are likely to be hit harder in the workplace than any other demographic by the advance of AI.
Taxation is likely to be the least of their problems within 5 years.
@Nicoledso The responsibility for Brexit lies solely and squarely with the politicians that delivered it.
Cameron, Farage, and Johnson.
It was for the most part an act of fraud. People were victims of brexit not collaborators.
@owenjonesjourno Most British people don't really care about Israel and Palestine.
They care about the cost of food, fuel and housing, they care about having secure borders so that immigration works properly, they care about over taxation, they care about jobs, health and policing.
@0xDavecryps For employees its a nil sum. Increased pay usually means increased prices.
Whats needed is action on taxation to lift the low paid out of it entirely. Puts extra money strait into their pocket and doesn't drive inflation.
