CastPay is coming to life through @thecanteenapp hackathon.
But there is a vision,
As we explored Arc and Circle’s payment infrastructure, we realized they unlock something that hasn’t really existed for open media:
usage-based monetization.
Today, creators are forced into subscriptions, ads, sponsorships, and donations.
But what if value could flow alongside attention?
What if viewers paid only for the content they actually consumed?
That’s the vision we’re building toward.
Powered by @arc L1, Circle Gateway, USDC, and real-time settlement infrastructure.
More soon.
Another big milestone from the @castpay_
team today.
Moving from the HLS proxy to a native plugin for Owncast v0.3.0 is more than a technical upgrade it’s what happens when builders listen to the ecosystem.
Community feedback helped redefine the foundation, turning CastPay into something that feels truly native inside Owncast.
1. Creators benefit from seamless integration.
2. Viewers experience smoother pay-by-the-second USDC flows without friction.
3. The entire experience remains non-custodial and supports open, self-hosted streaming.
Real-time micropayments + truly open platforms create possibilities centralized services can’t easily replicate.
Excited to see how this evolves as the plugin gets refined.

one of the biggest lessons we learned from building @castpay_ has been this:
“ building with an ecosystem is always better than building around it “
community feedback completely changed our architecture, and I genuinely believe the product is much stronger because of it.
the owncast community has been incredibly welcoming and generous with their time. from thoughtful product discussions to early guidance on the upcoming plugin architecture, they’ve helped us in building something that will fit more naturally into the ecosystem.
that’s the kind of collaboration every builder hopes for.
excited for what’s coming
@thecanteenapp@arc
Big milestone for CastPay.
We’ve completed the first implementation of our native Owncast plugin, built around the upcoming Owncast v0.3.0 plugin architecture.
This moves CastPay beyond our HLS proxy approach and closer to becoming a native part of the Owncast experience.
Huge thanks to the Owncast community and GabeKangas for the early guidance that helped shape this direction.
We’ll continue refining the plugin as the APIs evolve ahead of the v0.3.0 release.
@thecanteenapp
the more we speak to creators and open media communities, the more convinced i become that this problem is worth solving.
every conversation has made CastPay better.
we’re building in public, listening carefully, and shipping fast.
a lot more to come.
@thecanteenapp
Every creator deserves the freedom to decide how they monetize their work.
Today, most open media platforms leave creators with the same options: donations, subscriptions, or external payment platforms. Those models work, but they don’t fit every creator or every audience.
That’s why we’re building CastPay.
CastPay introduces a usage-based monetization layer for open media. Instead of committing to a monthly subscription, viewers pay only for the content they actually consume, while creators receive continuous USDC payments in real time.
Our goal isn’t to replace existing monetization models. It’s to give creators another option—one that feels native to the open web.
We started with Owncast, and we’re working toward supporting the broader open media ecosystem.
This is just the beginning.
@thecanteenapp
open media gave creators ownership of their content.
now it’s time to give them more ownership of how they monetize it.
that’s the vision behind @castpay_
a lot more to build, but today is a big milestone. cc @thecanteenapp
love to see @arc playing a major role in powering creator monetisation
viewers pay as they watch, creators earn in real time, and everything flows directly in USDC
that’s the beauty of nanopayments on Arc and circle
tbh castpay is the perfect creators' monetisation
CastPay is live
For years, creators have relied on subscriptions, ads, sponsorships, and platform-controlled gifts to earn from their content.
We think there should be another option.
With CastPay, creators can open a stream in minutes, set their own price, and start earning as viewers watch.
Viewers simply join the stream, connect their wallet once, and payments flow continuously in USDC while they’re watching. Stop watching, and billing stops too.
In this demo you’ll see:
• A creator creating a new stream
• A viewer joining and watching the stream
• Real-time USDC flowing to the creator
• A fully non-custodial payment experience powered by Arc and Circle
Built on:
• @arc L1
• @circle Gateway
• USDC
• EIP-3009 Payment Authorizations
• Browser Session Wallets
• Real-Time Micropayment Settlement
Today CastPay supports Owncast through an HLS Proxy Gate, with Jellyfin and PeerTube integrations already underway as we continue building a universal monetization layer for open media.
This is only the beginning.
The future of creator monetization shouldn’t depend on ads or platform lock-in.
It should be as open as the media itself.
Welcome to CastPay.

The internet made it easy to stream content.
It never made it easy to monetize it fairly.
Today, creators rely on ads, subscriptions, sponsorships, and gifts.
In many cases, platforms sit in the middle, take a significant share of the revenue/gift, and control the relationship between creators and their audiences.
We think there should be another option.
That’s why we’re building CastPay.
A new monetization layer for open media where value can flow directly between viewers and creators as content is consumed.
Built for livestreams, video-on-demand, and the next generation of open media platforms.
Powered by @arc, @circle Gateway, and USDC.
More soon.

I’m genuinely excited about what we’re building with @castpay_
At this point, I can confidently make the case for why Arc is unlike any other L1 I’ve worked with.
Arc is one of the few building the infrastructure that can bridge real-world payment experiences with blockchain rails.
CastPay is only possible because of that.
Built entirely on Arc and Circle’s stack:
• Arc L1
• USDC
• Circle Gateway
• Gateway Balances
• EIP-3009 Payment Authorizations
• Real-time Micropayment Settlement
Huge thanks to @thecanteenapp , @arc and @circle
Just wait until we show what we’ve been building.
