@throughlineNPR 2. The 6 day work week was only outlawed recently, still practiced. Fierce competition is there, but also fierce conformism. No kissing in public. No flashy clothes, etc. 3. This intense capitalist culture creates repression, which in turn creates great art as a byproduct.

@throughlineNPR Great story, but having worked in TV there (in 2000s) a few notes: 1. SK gov fought hard against US mandates to show American films (50% per theater) in return for good trade deals on things like beef. Other governments relent.
