Omicron was in the Netherlands before South Africa alerted the world - we may never know where it originated, another reason to underline the importance of not laying blame & seeking to punish https://t.co/Jxf8YiII7Q
Six more cases of Omicron found in the UK.
Many more more will emerge over the next few days.

@jennifergardy @blprnt Just to add my 2 cents, a long term goal would be to work towards self sufficiency for some reagents eg simple methods for expressing and purifying enzymes would help eliminate the need for cold chain. And sterilizing and reuse of plastics
Very exciting opportunity to work at MLW. Lead Microbiologist position now open. Malawi is a beautiful country and a great place to live. Plus there are lots of great colleagues to work with :)

One year after touching down in Malawi I got vaccinated. It’s been a busy and stressful year, but I’ve got to work on a great team @MlwTrust to set up Covid testing and in country sequencing.
So it begins! 360,000 AZ vaccine doses in the country. A good start for over 500,000 frontline healthcare workers who are first in line in #Malawi. Thanks & keep 'em coming, COVAX. (Had to go and have a quiet little grateful cry at this news)
...& proud of the sequencing work that has resulted from this WT COVID grant which will inform the Malawian Governments COVID response. Led by @catanscombe & @KGBscience@LivUni_IVES @MlwTrust @WTCGHR @benjamesmorton
@kirstynbrunker@nanopore It took me around 4 days, from RNA to consensus, day 1 o/n PCR, day 2 load sequencer (6 hour run), day 3 baseball and upload, day 4 run analysis. we are running on minimal equipment and very slow internet. Cts around the 30 mark.
