The Islanders are making NHL history. Really, Islanders fans will be making it.
The Islanders announced the start of a fan contest to design the team’s third jersey for the 2027-28 season. It is the first time in NHL history a franchise has allowed its fans to create an official team sweater, according to the Islanders.

Off to Brockton later today to talk with a book club about my first book, Shallow Graves: The Hunt for the New Bedford Highway Serial Killer #truecrime
Jennifer McAllister
In 2014, 32 year old Jennifer hadn't shown up for several doctor appointments, which caused concern for her family & they tried to report her missing, but according to the family in a recent news article, NYPD wouldn't file a report.
Jennifer last lived on 11th Street in the Gravesend area of Brooklyn, less than a mile where her body would later be recovered. It appears she lived most of her life in Brooklyn, but addresses also come up in North Carolina and Las Vegas, NV.
She had previously been known to us only by "Monique" (resulting from a hard to read tattoo she had on her leg, which we now know read "Kanique" after her son) until she was identified in September 2022 when she was taken off Namus, and a public announcement in January 2023. She is described as a 32 year old (at time of disappearance) Black/African American woman, with brown hair & brown eyes. She has 2 sons. She has a red & green tattoo on the back of her right calf that reads "Kanique" within a heart and rose. She had a mesh stent in the pelvis, which is evidence of a prior surgery - most likely for deep vein thrombosis. She also had evidence of a broken rib at some point in her life.
On 1/4/15, a badly decomposed hand was found by birdwatchers along the beach, sitting on a rock, in Calvert Vaux Park in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn. The hand was found in the rear of the park. LE conducts a search of the park. A search dog finds a foot on the following day 1/5/15. The cuts were made from an unknown tool. On 3/22/15, a man hanging with friends discovered a torso about 1,000 feet from where the hand was found earlier. LE canvassed the area and found a leg and arm dangling from a tree. (A recent article says LE believed birds could have relocated the remains into the tree). The head was never recovered. A blanket was recovered at the scene. Death was ruled a homicide with traumatic injuries. She is believed to have been murdered in the Summer or Fall of 2014. Since we are unsure of when family noticed her missing, we do not know the exact date she was last seen.
Today I honor the memory of Gail Katz.
I think of Gail often, and from many different perspectives. I never knew Gail, but she has affected my life- from the map, to never actually stopping my search for her.
So again this year I whisper a Yitzkor and say her name aloud, because I know her name is a blessing..
Wishing some sort of comfort to Gail's sister- she knows Gail is forever loved.

#DawnPasela
It's #TipTuesday and we need your help to bring even more awareness to the highly suspicious death of Dawn Pasela.
The death of whistleblower Dawn Pasela as she was scheduled to testify in open court about misconduct committed by Prosecutors Mark Bennett and Dan Kasaris has long been seen as too convenient of a coincidence to believe.
Her passing, initially attributed to an alcohol overdose with a blood-alcohol content of .59, followed a cursory autopsy and a police investigation that failed to interview a single witness or even collect any evidence. Suspicions of foul play have swirled for years but no hard evidence emerged, leaving Dawn’s family and friends not only heartbroken, but distraught about the circumstances surrounding her death.
A detailed narrative and a summary of newly discovered evidence establishes that Dawn’s death was no ‘accidental overdose’ of alcohol but the result of foul play.

It's #TipTuesday and we need your help to bring more attention to Beth-Ellen's #Unresolved murder and to bring more pressure to Raleigh, North Carolina PD.
On August 23, 1994, approximately four weeks after Beth Ellen Vinson, a 17-year-old white female, left her home in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and went to Raleigh to work and save enough money to get to New York, her body was found. Ms. Vinson’s body had been covered with cardboard, and left between two warehouses on Wicker Road. Ms. Vinson who worked for an escort service was last seen at 2:30 a.m. on August 16, 1994, when she left her apartment to meet a client. At 5:30 a.m. her 1990 white four door Mazda 626 was found at the entrance of a car dealership on Capital Boulevard.
Continuing investigation of this homicide, determined that Ms. Vinson was in possession of four pieces of jewelry and a multi-colored cloth purse the morning of her homicide. These items have never been recovered.
Medical examination disclosed that Ms. Vinson had been stabbed in excess of 15 times.

On March 8, 1992, the body of a young, unidentified female in her 20s was discovered in a trash dumpster behind a metal works shop, which was located at 175 Greeley Avenue, Sayville, New York.
The victim, weighing no more than 100 pounds, was found nude and without any of her personal effects. Subsequent examination of her body revealed her cause of death to be ligature strangulation.
In 2024, the Cold Case Task Force, in conjunction with Danielle Gruttadaurio, a forensic artist with the SCPD, and Parabon Nanolabs were able to update the image of how the victim likely appeared prior to her death via not only forensic sketch, but also by DNA Phenotyping, i.e., the prediction of physical appearance from DNA. Both images are contained herein.
Additionally, the Cold Case Task Force, in collaboration with a genetic genealogist with the FBI, has since been able to determine the victim was likely of Brazilian and/or Portuguese descent.
Anyone with information regarding this case or the identification of the victim is asked to contact [email protected].

It is #TipTuesday and your help is needed. Carmen Vargas’ murder is still unresolved, if you know anything, no matter how insignificant, please reach out to Troop L SP in Farmingdale at (631)756-3300.
On September 11, 1989, a body was discovered along the right shoulder of Meadowbrook State Parkway in Freeport, NY by a passerby. The body was later identified as Carmen Vargas. Carmen was found with a towel over her face, a rope around her neck, and her ankles bound with a cord. Her body was located approximately a half mile south of Merrick Road in Long Island, New York.
Carmen was wearing a gray tank top, a mini skirt, and silver crescent-shaped earrings. She was a petite Hispanic woman who stood at approximately 5'1" and weighed 105 pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes. There is limited information available about Carmen's case.
In 2023, Rex Heuermann was arrested in connection with the Long Island Serial Killer (LISK). Heuermann lived in Massapequa most of his life but was working for Greer Construction Company and was living in Freeport on Bedell Avenue during this time. Like many of the LISK victims, Carmen's ankles were bound. The location where Carmen's body was found leads to Ocean Parkway, where many of the other LISK victims were found.

May 1, 1991, an unidentified female was found deceased along the shore of Jamaica Bay near Beach 62nd Street in Arverne (Queens), New York. She had been deceased for several months before being found by 2 fishermen.
She is black, approximately 16-24 years old and stood around 5’3” tall. Her weight, hair and eye color are unknown. #ArverneJaneDoe had dental work completed as a gold cap was seen on one of her upper front teeth that would have been noticeable to others.
She was found wearing a black shirt that had metal rivets on it, and socks with light blue trim.
She was apparently beaten to death in either late 1990 or early 1991, and partially dismembered with both hands and one third of her forearm missing.
There are no police agencies actively investigating #ArverneJaneDoe which is a shame. Someone must remember a young woman matching this description with an obvious gold capped tooth.

On March 12 1990, the body of a young woman was discovered in the woods off Osborn Avenue in Riverhead, NY by a Riverhead Town highway worker.
The Suffolk County Police Department described her as an Asian woman, between the ages of 25 and 40, 5’3 and 110 pounds. She was estimated to have been murdered two to three days before her body was found.
The victim was wearing a long sleeve black and brown silk blouse, a black leather miniskirt and black pantyhose. She was barefoot. The woman’s face was badly beaten and she was killed by trauma to the head.
Riverhead Jane Doe was found murdered approximately 5 miles from the Long Island Serial Killer’s Manorville dumpsite where two other LISK victims have been discovered.
In July 2014, Manorville resident John Bittrolff was arrested for the 1993 murder of Rita Tangredi-Beinlich and the 1994 murder of Colleen McNamee. Bittrolff was convicted in 2017.
Like Riverhead Jane Doe, Colleen McNamee and Rita Tangredi were badly beaten in the head and at least one of each of their shoes were missing.
Riverhead Jane Doe is still not in NamUs.
