Separate basketball which is the only sport where players can make big money from college with zero NBA interest or prospects. The rest of the athletes should be grandfathered. These athletes followed the rules and were jobbed by COVID. They didn’t game waivers or strategically redshirt.
They played by the rules which are not uniform with other sports like football. For example in baseball you can pinch run one time and lose your redshirt.
Money is all that matters to any of these people. I agree gambling is driving popularity, but until revenues start to dip - the position by those spending the money on NIL is always gonna be driven by top line money. Eventually colleges will prioritize profitability but that is gonna be a while. The next thing that will start happening is states will start contributing to NIL because of perceived economic impact to the state to close some of the losses for colleges.
That number is no doubt fudged like most things in today’s society. The NCAA’s required documentation and committee reviews for waivers are a joke. They require so many hoops to be stepped through and a compliance dept that is willing to push and work for it (which a lot won’t). There’s a lot more gray area than what that 75 percent would have you believe.
@MaacTheft Ever play college sports at a high level in today’s super conferences flying coast to coast and try to get your degree at the same time? For most, it takes 5 years.
@AZPhilliesFan@4thandsaturday 50 mph and no movement allows 10 year olds to take a hack at everything. But once you step into an MLB box and the closer is high 90s with elite movement on 1-2 shapes - you don’t have that option. Why do you think pro hitters stare at strike 3 down the middle sometimes?
@mjscholten@Hassel_Chris The familiar story is the Monday morning QB criticizing a college kid who has been a standout teammate and has continued to work hard despite things not going his way this season.
@mas76013@jeffborzello Blue blood team should be good for 4-6 pts from the refs. 6-8 at home. Sorry, but it’s brutal to watch. If you are a Purdue homer you don’t understand how bad it is.
