🚨 BREAKING: Kenya's new Protests & Picketing Bill has been published.

At first glance, it looks progressive.
✅ Protest notices can be sent via email, WhatsApp, in person, or even posted at a police station.

✅ Police would be required to protect protesters, journalists and medics, even during spontaneous protests.

✅ Plain-clothed officers would be limited to intelligence gathering.

✅ Firearms would only be a last resort.
But then you read the fine print.

Protest organizers would still have to notify police 14 days in advance and provide their full identity, phone number and contact details.

Here's the question every Kenyan should ask:

If people fear being profiled, intimidated or arrested after identifying themselves, will they still feel free to submit notices to organize a protest?

Because the police will end up targetting those who submit notices.

Another question: Who defines "last resort"? What objective test will determine that every other option has truly been exhausted?

And if plain-clothed officers are still allowed at protests, what changes in practice? What prevents them from abducting or shooting protesters ??

This legislation in my opinion is extremely weak & gives police even more laws to hide behind as they harm protesters

Rights don't disappear only when they're banned. Sometimes they disappear when exercising them becomes too risky.

The Bill is now headed for public participation.

The bill seems to solve nothing significant on matters police brutality .

🚨 JUST IN: The mask didn't just slip. It completely fell off on Citizen TV.

Murkomen looked Kenyans in the eye and claimed that the armed men carrying rungus during maandamano, and even those seen during the Embu elections, were not goons.

They were "watchmen."

But the moment Citizen TV rolled footage that poked holes in that story, the fumbling began. Suddenly, the certainty disappeared. Eventually, he conceded that some of them were indeed goons.

Now here's the part that should concern every Kenyan.

When asked why police were not arresting these armed individuals, Murkomen said the police were exercising "restraint."

Restraint.

The same police who rarely show restraint when confronting unarmed protesters. The same police who we have seen beat, arrest, and even shoot unarmed citizens suddenly become champions of restraint when men carrying rungus are involved.

So what exactly is the message here?

That police restraint only applies to people carrying weapons?
That peaceful protesters are treated more harshly than suspected goons?

Murkomen seems to believe Kenyans will ignore what they've seen with their own eyes for years.

Yesterday, that narrative collapsed on live television.
