@PressleyPerkin1 I agree that this is very concerning, and I think it is even more concerning that behind the scenes schemes are still happening today in order to avoid debt #auburnworldhistory
"If the nation-state in miniature that is the University of Chicago can find the strength to transform itself, perhaps the nation as a whole can find the strength to do so as well." #auburnworldhistory
It's very disheartening to read about how Douglas had to scheme by marrying the daughter of the plantation owner in order to gain his fortune. He also knew having a plantation in Illinois would not fly so the plantation was in Mississippi #auburnworldhistory
I understand why the University of Chicago would not want to claim this part of its heritage but it is important to know about & recognize that hundreds of enslaved people died to make the $7 billion endowment possible and the university should acknowledge it #auburnworldhistory
@MasonBelcher12 I agree with this 100% - it makes me question and wonder why current events like these were never talked about in my classes growing up. I wish that I was made more aware of conflicts and news from around the world #AuburnWorldHistory
It is inspiring to see a group of people fight for what they truly believe in and for their rights in their countries they call home #auburnworldhistory
It is interesting that the shape of a square is used to symbolize the different forces that are trying to transform Egypt - some think that a triangle could also be used to represent the army, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the people #auburnworldhistory
Watching this documentary made me realize that I really feel like I don't much about what is happening in other countries and what has happened in recent years #auburnworldhistory
@ForestWhistory I agree with this. I also did not realize how important hip hop was during the 80s. I think it is also interesting to note how our hip hop of today is completely different from what hip hop was in the 80s. #auburnworldhistory
I think it is interesting reading about artists and how they make their livelihood - it is honestly really inspiring to read about people doing what they love #auburnworldhistory
Freedia: "If you want to mess with me, I'm gonna mess back with you, but keep in mind that I have the mic in my hand and I'm gonna have the power over you at that moment" #auburnworldhistory
@auwhistledown I agree with this very much. I feel like Harvey kind of went back and forth on his opinions and might have only been concerned with defending his political beliefs #Auburnworldhistory
"Overall I think this period was defined by a broad movement across many fronts, ideological and political" I think Harvey's perspective on neoliberalism is very interesting #auburnworldhistory
"I've always treated neoliberalism as a political project carried by the corporate capitalist class as they felt threatened politically & economically towards the end of the 1960-70s.They wanted to launch a political project that would curb the power of labor" #auburnworldhistory
"And I think the danger is, when I listen to people talking about anti-neoliberalism, that there is no sense that capitalism is itself, in whatever form, a problem" #auburnworldhistory
This film captures perspectives of many people who were involved in the decision making during the Cold War which I think is something valuable we don't read about in textbooks #AuburnWorldHistory
The general speaks to the President telling him he needs to be more concerned with the American people than what his image will look like in history books - I think it is interesting to think about how Presidents have to think from every perspective #AuburnWorldHistory
I can't imagine having to be one of the leaders of America during the Cold War (or any war for that matter). The stress & difficult decisions that had to be made on account of all citizens determining life or death is beyond imaginable for me personally #AuburnWorldHistory
@MountHistory2 I agree with this 100%. It is crazy comparing what we see on the tv compared to what actually happened when we read about it or hear first accounts. It's so much more brutal than we all realize #AuburnWorldHistory
