What does “evidence” really look like in creative arts therapy?
In this short clip from World Art Therapy Conference, Carla van Laar reflects with conference host Carmen Oprea on ideas that sit at the heart of her presentation 'I Just Feel Happier!' Drawing on her community-based, ocean-connected work, they talk about how impact often shows up quietly and relationally — through engagement, time spent, people choosing to return, and simple statements like “I feel better.”
Annette Schwalbe, is a Dance Movement Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor and Somatic Body Mapping practitioner and trainer based in the UK. Her presentation Somatic Body Mapping: Making Visible the Embodied Experience of ‘Becoming’ will trace the development of the practice from its origins in an art/activist methodology to today’s somatic approach which integrates art making with touch, body meditation, movement, and improvised ritual.
In this snippet she talks about the celluar memory of being seen for the first time and resonate emotions this can bring up during somatic body mapping process.
Annette will present at the Mind-Body Approaches section of the World Art Therapy Conference 2026. Watch for free online during broadcast dates.
