Eleven years ago today, nine Black worshippers were murdered during Bible study at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston.
Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney. Cynthia Hurd. Susie Jackson. Ethel Lance. Rev. Depayne Middleton-Doctor. Tywanza Sanders. Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr. Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton. Myra Thompson.
We say their names and remember the sacredness of their lives.
This was not only a mass shooting. It was a heinous act of white supremacy carried out in a house of worship. We must tell the truth about that hatred, grieve what it stole, and remain committed to dismantling the violence of racism in every form.

Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.

I ran across these words Tamika Palmer shared about her daughter, Breonna Taylor, and they broke my heart, especially these words: “She did everything right.”
That truth stays with me. Breonna should be celebrating her 33rd birthday today. Instead, her mother is carrying the weight of an unimaginable loss and the injustice of a life taken without accountability.
We are still grieving a life stolen and confronting a system that remains broken. Breonna deserved to live. She deserved to grow older. She deserved justice.

Everyone needs to watch @Justinjpearson's floor speech from the TN State House.
"Today, you will take the only Black-majority district from us. But I want you to know: No matter what you do, no matter how much you try to break us & make us bend & quit — we will still be here."
Since the "ceasefire" the Netanyahu govt has steadily taken control of more territory in Gaza, squeezing civilians into tighter areas, pushing them toward the sea.

Israel's mass slaughter in Gaza, enabled by the US, was a moral outrage. And now, as the @nytimes reports, Israel is applying the Gaza model in Lebanon -- and once again we Americans are enabling this moral catastrophe. https://t.co/1xkN7hECMu
This is not a detainment camp in World War II, nor a prison in the Holocaust, this is Gaza. A chilling reminder that history repeats.
