“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity." -Pema Chodron
@SketchesbyBoze@bdk1521 I’ve read 27 books so far this year and while I wouldn’t exactly call myself happy, I’d certainly be far more miserable if I didn’t have the healthy escape of reading.
@grumpygremmy@mill3nnialmh The hardest thing I learned is that those people don’t actually want to understand. They want you to shut up and do whatever they want. They are not our people.
Started having debilitating muscle cramps every time I work out since I started a new med. Doc says “drink more water”. More than the >1.5 gal a day I already drink? “Eat a banana before your workout.” With what money and time am I obtaining fresh bananas every single day?
it's because they understand homelessness as a weapon of the capitalist class & are savvy enough to recognize that the moment you start framing the homeless as disturbances and pests you are giving your buy-in to dispose of them. i'm sorry you haven't gotten there yet

@heatherbimages The fact that large parts of south philly are still an unplowed mess 3 full days after the snow stopped is truly a testament to the mayor’s incompetence.
Kids in Philadelphia are losing a week of in-person instruction because @PhillyMayor couldn’t handle a basic function of city management on the east coast: snow removal.
I hope it is a lesson learned when you remain in campaign mode it is hard to run a functional city.
Going to be honest, usually by now even my tiny street would have seen at least one plow. I think this was probably one of the most poorly managed storms by the city. Especially one with so much headway we knew it was happening.
our society’s unwillingness or refusal to actually allow for people to grieve the horrific things that happen to them is one of the cruelest aspects of all of this
what has become clear to me is that with grief rituals come transformation, something those in power cannot afford
