Noong 12th Congress pa unang inihain ni Akbayan Representative Ka Etta Rosales ang Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill. Ngayon, pagkatapos ng higit dalawampung taon, pasado na sa third and final reading sa Kongreso ang Right to Information (RTI) Bill.

Sa ilalim ng panukalang ito, mas magiging malinaw, mabilis, at accessible ang pagkuha ng impormasyon mula sa gobyerno. Kasama rito ang mas madaling access sa SALN ng public officials, proactive disclosure ng mahahalagang dokumento at transaksyon, pagbuo ng independent Right to Information Commission, proteksyon para sa whistleblowers, at pananagutan para sa mga iligal na nagtatago ng impormasyon.

Hindi dapat mangapa at nagmamakaawa ang taumbayan para malaman kung saan napupunta ang pera ng bayan. Hayaan nating maghari ang liwanag para sa isang gobyernong tapat, makatarungan, at walang itinatago sa taumbayan.
