This might be one of the most remarkable ways I’ve ever seen football keep someone in the game 👏

Former Middlesbrough and Burnley player Gary Parkinson suffered a devastating stroke in 2010 that left him with locked-in syndrome. He was fully conscious, but unable to move or speak.

Yet his football brain was completely intact ⚽️✅

So his former teammate and then-Middlesbrough manager, Tony Mowbray, found a way to keep him involved.

Gary would watch footage of potential signings and, with help from his family, give his scouting verdict using between one and four blinks.

That detail is incredible 🙌

Today, two of Gary’s former clubs, Middlesbrough and Burnley, face each other, with supporters being urged to get behind fundraising for his 24-hour care.

Football gives you far more than a job. For so many people, it becomes part of who you are.

Never be too quick to judge what somebody still has to offer ❤️
