'Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret, never to be told'
First Magpie fungus of the year!🖤🍄☠️🤍
It looks similar to an inkcap and, like them, deliquesces into useable ink🖤🐦⬛ 🖤

Necklaces of white bryony 🧡❤️💚
This beautiful and highly toxic vine is also known as viper berry and English mandrake🖤
In Oxfordshire it is rather less common than black bryony (which has much glossier leaves & berries).

Ginkgo, flaming gold 💛🔥💛
Also known as maidenhair trees, their name derives from the Japanese for 'silver apricot'🤍
Ginkgo is one of the oldest living tree species, closely related to a tree that flourished among the dinosaurs 200 million years ago💛
Contemporary UK textile artist Julie French uses reclaimed fabric, paper and handmade felt in her art, and a sewing machine (among other resources) as a tool for continuous line drawing.

😳 It's rage-inducing when mature women are treated as simpletons by an ageist, sexist society. Thank goodness there's a programme called Woman's Hour. Oh wait...
Here's that programme's editor - from around 21.10

That's it for me this week.
Genuinely one thing I'll do this weekend is submit my 6 small fixes to https://t.co/l2iRtABXms. It'll be fascinating to see if any make it to the long list (I'm not a selector til later)
Pls put your ideas in too. Have a great weekend. See you Mon!
Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the https://t.co/wdF4pq3aKe website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen. Please share.
NEWS: Today I’m launching The Small Ideas Initiative. We want you to submit ideas at https://t.co/wdF4pq3aKe for non-controversial fixes, e.g “live sewage updates for beaches” or “standardised allergen menus”.
A year ago, an interviewer asked what I’d have told the Government if I’d been advising it, I replied, 'Come up with 100 small things that piss people off and fix one a day for the first 100 days'. As I left the stage, I emailed myself, 'set up Small ideas institute!'
And today, I’m excited it's happening. I’m funding two charities to work together to collate the submissions, narrow them down to about 200 doables then turn those into formal policy proposals which I'll bring back to you for feedback.
Then to finish we've a Cross-Party panel who’ve agreed to pick 50ish, after which we’ll start trying to make them happen. You can read far more about it and who the cross party panel are here… https://t.co/QPDowwvz4h
Please share the post below. By combining lots of small ideas we give it oomph for politicians to take it seriously. I want everyone with a good idea to see it so they have a chance to make things better for all of us!
No, this isn't the new Taylor Swift album cover. I've cleaned-up this remarkable colour photo, taken 113 years ago in August 1913, a year before the First World War. It is a portrait of 16-year-old Christina Bevan at Durdle Door in Lulworth, Dorset. It was taken by Lt-Colonel Mervyn O’Gorman using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.
This was one of the first Autochromes I cleaned up for Twitter and I share it again with you because it is such a beautiful image 😍

Black bryony berries bejewelling the hedgerows❤️These strings of glossy berries were traditionally known as 'Rosaries.'
They ripen in autumnal beauty from lime green through tangerine to scarlet (but they are also very ☠️)

Our wonderful features are wiggling to an end; today's final flourish begins with Helen Anderson's 'I Wish This Phone Had a Better Camera' and 'Written by Candlelight in March' by Sue Johns.

Wild watercress💚🤍💚
I love to see glossy banks of watercress on stream margins. It is one of the oldest known leaves in the human diet & is packed with good things such as iodine & vitamin K.
(Wild plants must be cooked)🌿
'Green is the prime colour of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises'💚
(Pedro Calderon de la Barca, playwright & priest)
Trees will soon wear their autumn glory but it is lovely, after a parched summer, to see the countryside clad in emerald green🌿💚🌿
