Interesting! I like this definition as many people don't feel legitimate calling themself a polyglot although they do have knowledge of several languages and an understanding of their cultural context
A polyglot is someone with a decent level of knowledge of more than two languages. This may mean good comprehension, but a limited ability to speak without a sustained opportunity to do so.

Good comprehension and a large passive vocabulary are essential to meaningful conversation. If you understand well you can speak more, albeit with mistakes, and eventually your language skills improve. https://t.co/clf3trKm84
Most people underestimate how long it takes to learn a new language. That's why it's so important to enjoy the process so you don't stop. https://t.co/MuzVHHGjWQ
In praise of speaking languages less than perfectly! Novak Djokovic spoke comfortably, naturally, in French in front of thousands at Roland-Garros, w/ his Serbian accent & mistakes in gender etc. Fans loved it & so did I. Rafa does the same. Languages are for communicating.

@lingosteve +1 for immersion but immersion + grammar done right in a simple & joyful way (yes it's possible) is 🎆🎇 Pleasure has to come first though, and understanding more and more of what you hear plays a big part, you're absolutely right 💯
How to motivate school learners to put in the time needed to learn a language. That is the alpha and omega of language instruction. Nothing else matters.
Language learning is a fuzzy logic process. It's not a matter of learning the basics and building on that. A study plan needs to be more about ensuring you stay motivated and engaged with the language, rather than a specific plan on the use of time.
