The Marcos dictatorship was overthrown by armed struggle and a civil uprising, But the dynasty it built remains today—a family notorious for the most corrupt governance and human rights violations in Philippine history.

‘JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF MINDORO BOMBINGS’
Filipino groups and human rights advocates rallied at the Philippine Embassy in London on January 12, 2026, demanding justice and the Philippine government’s accountability after its armed forces held an aerial bombing and helicopter strafing in Occidental Mindoro.
The incident, which happened in Abra de Ilog on January 1, 2026, killed several civilians and destroyed some houses, farmland, and livestock, according to human rights groups.
“People are bombed in the guise of anti-insurgency and counter-terrorism. But we know that the people of Abra de Ilog are being evicted from their land so that their land can be grabbed in the name of mining,” migrant group Migrante United Kingdom said.
The groups also call for the immediate release of Filipino-American community organizer Chantal Anicoche, who was held captive by the Armed Forces of the Philippines after the bombings.

People's organizations are in front of the Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City today, Jan. 12, to demand the urgent release of Chantal Anicoche, a Filipina community leader in the United States who remains in the custody of the military.
'RELEASE CHANTAL ANICOCHE': In New York City, Filipino-Americans held a protest at the Philippine Consulate to demand the release of youth activist Chantal Anicoche, who is currently under the custody of the 203rd Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The 25-year old youth activist was reported missing on January 1 during the military aerial bombings and strafing in Barangay Cabacao, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro.
BAYAN-USA described Anicoche as a "beloved Filipino community member and leader."
“As long as our people are poor, as long as our people remain landless, as long as our people are forced to go overseas only to be exploited further, there will only be more Chantals who will continue to resist in the belly of the beast and those who choose to go back home to fight alongside our people to achieve genuine freedom and democracy," said Winnie Payabyab of BAYAN USA Northeast.

RELEASE CHANTAL ANICOCHE!
