Thoughts on #OneDay (on @NetflixIndia)

Devastating. Just like its spiritual predecessor, Normal People, the show will mend and break and heal and destroy your heart, many times over. What a perfect show about imperfect love and less-than-perfect people.

After watching the series, umm.. one day at a time, I kept asking myself: Why do we all watch cinema that make us sad, even if the sadness is wrapped in a bow of hope? Why do we love them if they devastate us.. or do we love them because they do? And I think cinema like this gives us the feels because it celebrates every possible feeling. It does not judge the full range of human emotion, it just presents it and represents it.

To be human isn't just about hope and happy endings, but about hurt and heartbreak too. Life isn't just a box full of chocolates, it's got chocolates and meds and sweets and painkillers and sugar and salads and ice creams and onions. Some give you a high, and some make you cry.. it really depends on the day, isn't it? Every day of our lives offers something new, and it may be good, bad or ugly. We don't know if the day will hurt or heal, just that no matter what it brings, the sun will set and a new day will be here again..

One Day is about that time in our lives when a stranger turns into a story, and sometimes, becomes the story of our lives. Nicole Taylor has created a beautiful show about the journey of love, loss & longing of two people over two decades. @ambikamod is just perfect as Emma Morley, you feel as she does, you are who she is.. someone trying to sort her life in a world of abundant chaos, someone trying to hold on to her dreams in a world of hard realities. She is the empathetic epitome of desi struggle in white society, and she plays it with such dignity ❤️

And @LeoWoodall, he does remind you of the Leo from Titanic, doesn't he? What a beautiful man and beautiful actor. His character could've been a reductive sad, little, rich boy stereotype but man, he added so much humanity to it. Played it with such love and grace and depth. A breakout talent!
