Amazon's Zoox has become the first company in the U.S. to receive approval for paid robotaxis without a steering wheel or pedals.

The approval allows Zoox to deploy up to 2,500 robotaxis per year for the next two years, with additional safety reporting requirements.

The company can now charge passengers for rides, subject to state and local approvals.
