I think people imagine expedition science is quite glamorous, and not the early days, late nights, and equipment piled up on spare surfaces that it actually is…
Take a walking tour through the spectacular @CavernsNPS in a video from travel vlogger Joey Evans. Carlsbad Cavern is celebrating 100 years with the National Park Service this coming October, so it is a great time to visit. https://t.co/DqsJPlMsOE #caves#newmexico
@AnitoriRoberto@uakronbcas@ZipsBiology I know - we try not to use single-use plastics, but it's impossible to find anything else for all that sorting and storing! The lab buys them in 500-bag boxes.
Sampling has been going really well - we think ammonia from the bird poop might be the key to the aggressive dissolution - microbes!! @uakronbcas@ZipsBiology#caves
Just out from a 3 day science camp. We thought the bird guano might be involved in making the caves - it has a pH of 1.7! We might be right!! @uakronbcas@ZipsBiology#caves
We landed at 12:30 and we in Deer Cave by 3:00 PM, checking out the cupula flutes, then watching the moneys and seeing if there would be a bat flight. @uakronbcas@ZipsBiology#caves
Heading to Borneo to figure out whether bird poop makes enormous caves. With my grad student Max - 20 hrs of travel and we’re in Tokyo boarding the next plane @uakronbcas@ZipsBiology
Iron cave paper that was rejected by the editors from two micro journals for being too geo, then from geo journals for being too micro. Finally in Scientific Reports... and I thought we were in a post-silo world. https://t.co/75ob8OJGS1
Congrats to Dr. Hazel Barton on "Lechuguilla Cave: Discoveries in a Hidden Splendor," co-edited by @cavescience, professor of @ZipsBiology & @UAkron_Geosci. It covers the expedition of a cave that remained hidden in New Mexico until 1986. More info ➡️ https://t.co/C55qOToanV
@markowenmartin Volunteering to help a non-profit develop a curriculum for adults. Had to make a few slides on the most difficult topic - reasons people act out. I illustrated it with a picture of my bestie. Haven’t stopped laughing since! 🤣😂🤣
