Such a wobbly day yesterday….slept nearly all day and all night…using my purple rose sent as a gift to help with healing…..ironic as 💜 is also used for #WorldPrematurityDay2022 …which is today. Huge strength of these babies to survive under amazing care!
Today is world prematurity day.
Georgie was born at 23+1 week and had a long journey spanning 150 days. Her last few weeks before heading home in the BGH. The different emotions and experiences her family went through were huge. 💜
Purple is the color associated with this day.
@_breastfeeding Totally agree, woman are so vulnerable post birth, often left with an unsettled newborn after visitors/increased handling…exhausted as sleep deprived…and blaming themselves, Antenatally, parents must be educated on risks of over stimulation & schedule visitors. @Juliet_Smith1
Perinatal mental health is so important to consider in this vulnerable group of patients. How to communicate, develop trusting relationships and consider maternal history is also vital. @sarahjhoran_j@shonafinch68@KirsteenGuthrie@NHSBorders
Week's finishing with good news - two grants and latest work from the citizen science @parentscigang project on milk composition is published in @MetabolitesMDPI.

For anyone interested in tandem feeding! TL:DR, milk appears to revert to a neonatal type.
My recent research on #SPL and #breastfeeding in the #health sector highlights an urgent need for a national policy on breastfeeding in the workplace. Looking to work with #breastfeeding organisations to campaign for a policy. Tag yourself if interested and I will be in touch
@_breastfeeding Absolutely love this image!!! Children copy as as the grow…in all our behaviours….always remember that. This mum has normalised breastfeeding…wonderful job mum! ❤️❤️💕💕
@LouiseM17513002@drlynnmccallum@JaneJon22883347 @BordersJK @AlisonFORSTER11@sarahjhoran_j @diane_dked @NHSBorders Absolutely! Working in the BGH, Band 7 Midwife, I see wonderful care and deal with awesome reviews a lot. However, waking up in ITU and hearing how their every emotional need was catered for, blew me away with pride for my fellow staff! Will be putting a review in! 😊
@c23_millie @joeb_EY I can do agree with this. My second was the same. We were advised by a HV to try control crying. Did it two nights only. He needed constant parental soothing. Broke my heart putting him through the two nights. Now, I train NHS staff in safe sleeping and loving relationships. 👍🏻👨👩👧
@joeb_EY @_FionaScott As a midwife, I note many focus on “how good” your child is. IE: are they allowing you a full nights sleep. Our children and our breastmilk are designed to encourage regular waking which is protective against SIDS. Please look at the work of @Prof_AmyBrown another amazing pro! 👍🏻
@joeb_EY @BasisOnline1 is always the best info you will get in regards to sleep info. Non biased and evidence based. Prof H Ball is an incredible source of knowledge and I’m sure she has attended NICE Governance to assist with fixing government advice. 😊
