Western media used phrases like “Gaza model” to describe the destruction [in Lebanon]. But Gaza is not a “model,” it is a genocide.
Using reductive words like “model” or “playbook” for what is happening in Lebanon minimizes Israel's war crimes while normalizing genocide in Gaza.
I have observed and studied legacy media reporting on Palestine for years. I have had the opportunity to analyse documented patterns of dehumanization that - nearly three years into a genocide - are beyond shocking.
Here’s a thought, just an idea, I will throw it out there… No editor or columnist who did not go to state school has a right to comment on state schools. I do not refer to Pippa as she is Scottish and gets extra points. All I would say is so MANY privileged media loudmouths talk from a position of total ignorance on education but nobody ever points out they never experienced it. They have the confidence to bang on whereas comp kids take decades to get that confidence…
@romysdad@LondonRoadnet That is true, but when he states that there’s “No patience from anybody these days” I took this to extend to fans as well as the journalist fraternity
BBC complaint upheld over Lord Walney Palestine Action interview
A complaint has been upheld after the BBC failed to identify a critic of Palestine Action [Walney] as a campaigner to ban it with ties to the defence industry and a pro-Israel group.

Martyn Ziegler deserves a Pulitzer Prize for this. He has saved football. There is no way that Infantino survives now and it's all because Ziegler somehow broke the story. If he allowed Infantino to do this on his own timetable, having the time to have clandestine chats in smokefilled rooms maybe he would have got it through but Ziegler had other ideas and that's journalism. Superb.
@IpsoNews took up under 4% of complaints between 2018 and 2022. It upheld around 0.56%. It has never fined a publisher after a standards investigation.
A regulator funded by the industry it polices, ruling one way for @Telegraph and the other for @thetimes on the same facts, offers no protection to anyone. Not Muslims, not anybody.
#Leveson promised a press held to a standard owed equally to everyone it writes about. That promise is unmet.
More than 100 UK-based millionaires including Gary Lineker, screenwriter Richard Curtis and city trader turned wealth tax campaigner Gary Stevenson are asking Andy Burnham to tax their wealth and “reinvest” it into Britain.
“We want you to tax us,” reads their letter, organised by Patriotic Millionaires UK and delivered on Thursday. “We’re not talking about higher taxes on those who get up and go to work for their income every day, but on the very richest whose income is derived from the wealth they hold.”
Polling from Patriotic Millionaires shows that 80% of UK millionaires support a 2% tax on wealth over £10m, which the group says would raise £24bn a year for Britain.
Patriotic Millionaires also advocates for reforms to capital gains tax, including equalising it with income tax, to raise an estimated £12bn annually.
Other signatories to the letter include musician Brian Eno, novelist Val McDermid and lawyer Julia Davies.
Lineker said: “Paying your fair share is a basic British value, but so many ordinary people are already paying more than they can afford. Our richest people can do more and most want to.”
Burnham has not ruled out introducing a wealth tax, and has previously suggested he would consider an inheritance tax levy on estates to fund social care.
On his recent Channel 4 documentary ‘How To Get Filthy Rich’, Stevenson argued: “We are in a situation of high and rapidly growing inequality. And it is accelerating.
“This is what people don’t realise. I am not the person in this country advocating for redistribution. I am the person advocating for stopping the redistribution that is currently happening.”
NEW: Who funds Nigel Farage? And why has it taken till now for any journalistic scrutiny? @carolecadwalla who has tracked him for a decade exposes how the UK press & regulators looked the other way
Michael Gove's Spectator is today shown as clearly Islamophobic, even bigoted, even racist in a huge and extensive report. He is entitled to defend his magazine but - he did media sit-downs today. Was he even asked? Perhaps, as @SayeedaWarsi's book shockingly says: "Muslims Don't Matter?"
