Listening to 8th Circuit oral argument appeal in our challenge to Arkansas law that would send librarians to jail for allegedly inappropriate material (target: graphic novels). Will lower court victory vs. law be affirmed?
We don’t often post about things like this. This feels different.
Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis wasn’t just a graphic novel. It changed the public perception of what comics could do, and who they could speak for.

More Fund Comics is a 2003 benefit anthology comic book created to raise money for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF).
The CBLDF is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 to protect the First Amendment rights of comics creators, publishers, retailers, and readers. It provides legal aid in cases involving censorship, obscenity charges, and challenges to free expression in the comics medium (e.g., defending retailers arrested over specific titles or fighting book bans).
It's a star-spangled anthology (trade paperback) featuring short original stories, pin-ups, and sketches from dozens of top-name comics creators. It includes premieres of new concepts and a “CBLDF Sketchbook" section.
Notable contributors include George Pérez (who did this Hulk cover), Geoff Johns, Frank Cho, Adam Hughes, John Romita, Mike Oeming, Erik Larsen, Scot Kolins, Jerry Ordway, Stan Sakai, and many others.
It followed the earlier Fund Comics and was succeeded by Even More Fund Comics. The first volume reportedly helped raise significant dollars (tens of thousands) for CBLDF's legal defense work.
Suing the Trump admin gets most att’n, but all should note targeting of auction co. over promo use of songs. TikTok etc is getting us used to adding music to what are effectively ads online; it’s a widely unacknowledged risk.
The Authors Guild is collecting information from authors whose publishers failed to register their books with the U.S. Copyright Office, and who believe they were excluded from the ‘Bartz v. Anthropic’ class action settlement as a result. https://t.co/hkH9sKKOFb

Payment providers are themselves caught in web of U.S. lawsuits vs. credit card companies for accepting payments for adult material; U.S. laws; EU, other laws internationally; impetus to minimize risk in compliance, legal dep'ts. AI monitoring levels up all.
This is the company managing works like “Lone Wolf & Cub”
“The copyright management of manga creator Kazuo Koike's works was handled by Kazuo Koike Works Dissemination Association Co. Ltd., which received a bankruptcy commencement order from the Tokyo District Court on May 14.”
@Kougeru Common allegations include claims that adult material involves/leads to human trafficking, child abuse, mental health issues, etc. Legality varies in jurisdictions; risk minimization is impetus to restrict more than bounded range of material in violation.
@Vee_cxvi Google has had the capacity to scan those files for years. It’s ostensibly to stop malware, but that’s only one of many things prohibited by its TOS.
Google canceling accounts due to Gmail and Drive content is a serious issue. We had a related issue – Gmail started filtering out our legal defense correspondence after the lawyer trying to censor Gender Queer filed a brief alleging it was CSAM.
