Here's what the paperback cover for "Havana Hardball: Spring training, Jackie Robinson and the #Cuban League" will look like. Similar to the hardcover: same photo but different font for the title and subtitle. It will be out Sept. 30, 2025. https://t.co/guvzWe5Wyf

Luis Tiant, who died Tuesday at age 83, has thus far failed to gain induction into the Baseball Hal of Fame despite deserving career numbers. https://t.co/7hGPqQ5vJY
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Luis Tiant. In a Major League career that spanned 19 seasons, "El Tiante" made three All-Star teams and won 20 or more games four times. Tiant won two ERA titles in the American League - one in 1968 for Cleveland, and another in 1972 for Boston. The Cuba native also pitched for the Yankees, Twins, Pirates and Angels. He was 83.
Nat King Cole was attacked on stage & knocked down by a group of white men. People near front row jeered at Mr. Cole, "Negro, go home."
Outside the arena, officers found car containing rifles, a blackjack, brass knuckles.

Hall of Famer Johnny Mize claimed that Martín Dihigo “was the only guy I ever saw, who could play all nine positions, manage, run and switch-hit.” Here’s my painting of him with Habana in early 1923.
Martín Dihigo's nickname says it all: El Maestro.
Dihigo is the only player enshrined in the Baseball Halls of Fame in the United States, Mexico and Cuba, earning election to Cooperstown with Pop Lloyd #OTD in 1977. https://t.co/CfB25838z4

Sources: OF/SS Luis Enrique Gurriel Jr. (12) left Cuba in recent days and will seek to sign with an MLB team in the future.
He was member of the Cuban National team in Little Leagues last August. Luis is the cousin of Lourdes Jr. and Yuli Gurriel. His father played for 20 seasons in Cuba.
The emigration of Cuban baseball has considerably reduced his average age. Since 2017, increasingly younger players are leaving the island. From the last Cuba U-12 team (February 2023), 5 players aged 12 have already left the country.
Happy to have contributed the chapter on Hall of Famer and @Twins broadcaster @TonyOliva6 to @McFarlandBooks' new book on @MLB's Spanish-language broadcasters. https://t.co/rZbkDeu6T4
