Welsh Granddad from Canada trying to find equilibrium in an unbalanced world

War Secretary Pete Hegseth lauds the planned $1.5 TRILLION budget for the Department of War, calling it ‘a message to the world’.
The message to the American people is no money for healthcare, but more money for wars that end in embarrassing strategic defeats.
War Secretary Pete Hegseth lauds NATO 3.0, a return to a ‘real hardline military alliance’.
European vassal state governments, stuck in economic mediocrity with their self-sanctions and spiralling crises, cannot realistically afford the remilitarisation Washington demands…
And will no doubt only become even more unpopular as they cut public services to fund this militarisation.
The entire plan is unrealistic, no matter how much War Secretary Hegseth forcefully gestures with his hands to add emphasis to his words.
The Germans are longing for war with Russia. They try it at least once or twice a century. It is a deep psychosis in the German psyche that rises up every couple of generations and propels Germans to throw themselves against the Russian wall. It always ends in defeat & disaster. Germans have a psychotic hatred of Russia for defeating them every time. If they are stupid enough to go to war with Russia again this century it will be even worse than Barbarossa.
don't understand how this is supposed to divide the country. Wouldn't it rather unite the country against 'demonstrated' threat from Russia? (if it were credible, that is)
@marydejevsky Perhaps it's recognition that many do not share the Russiaphobia promoted by our 'leaders' in Westminster and are not willing to die for such recklessness.
US Sanctions? Hear the case, then decide for yourself.
You may disagree with my words, my findings, or my work as a UN independent expert altogether. That is legitimate.
But using sanctions against me for fulfilling a mandate is not debate about opinions: it is an abuse of power.
Right on cue. They've VOTED to come for your VPN.
The minute people reached for their VPNs, the government's own side moved against them. Remember when they SWORE this was only about protecting the children?
This January the House of Lords voted 207 to 159 to ban VPNs for under 18s. Same night, they backed scanning software on every phone and tablet in the country. While you were told to think of the children and it never stops at the children. It never does.
Because you cannot age-check one child without age-checking every adult behind them. The Open Rights Group said it plainly. To use a VPN, you'd hand your ID, your face, your passport, to some unregulated company you've never heard of. Just to use the tool meant to keep you private.
Then they handed the minister the keys to the lot. Any website, any app, any game, shut down on a whim. No vote. No debate. Not a shred of proof a single child was ever harmed and now Kendall pops up to say there's more landing in JULY. Of course there is.
This was never about a child getting around a ban. It was about making sure YOU never get around them.
July isn't an update. It's the next brick in the wall they're building around you.
Today in Haaretz there is an article accusing Israel of being a terrorist state (plus committing crimes against humanity). It was not written by a Marxist member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
It was written by former Israeli PM Ehud Olmert.

Here we go again. Some so-called pro-Russian accounts are demanding a stronger response from Moscow.
I can’t help but wonder: do these people ever think about what happens next? Are they simply driven by a desire for revenge, or do they naively believe that nuking Kiev or destroying Lvov would somehow end NATO’s obsession with weakening Russia?
What I see is a failure to understand cause and effect.
Once Russia starts responding for real, the West will get exactly what many of its elites have wanted all along: a major war, massive taxpayer spending on the military-industrial complex, huge profits from reconstruction loans, years of demand for medical services for the wounded, and, ideally, access to Russian resources. That’s the real prize.
Their motives make sense.
What doesn’t make sense is non-elites cheering for a scenario that would leave millions dead across Europe, countless people homeless or disabled, and entire regions/cities devastated.
I don’t think most of these people calling for escalation would benefit from it financially. The arms manufacturers would. The banks would. The contractors certainly would. So why keep cheering for it? That part makes no sense to me.
@rinalu_ Putin understands the tragic consequences of WW3 unlike many armchair warriors. They should pray nightly that he is President for many years to come.
If the Cuban Missile Crisis is anything to judge by there are generals on both sides only too willing to gamble.
Wales is rich in natural resources, so why aren't our communities seeing the benefits? 🤔
Plaid Cymru is fighting to devolve the Crown Estate - so the profits can be invested back into Welsh communities 🏴
The Labour government are trying to create a digital prison for the entire British population with the government as the prison wardens. No one voted for this.
