Yesterday, the NYPD conducted a search warrant at a home on Staten Island and recovered 13 ghost guns, including 9 handguns and 4 assault rifles.

These dangerous weapons have no place in our city, and this department will be relentless on taking them off our streets.

On August 20th, one of our Lakewood PD Agents spotted a truck stopped dead in the middle of an active eastbound lane. The driver was passed out at the wheel, prompting a motorist assist call.

Knowing how unpredictable these situations can be, our Agents utilized smart, proactive tactics. Before waking the driver, they carefully positioned patrol vehicles just inches from the front and rear of the truck to prevent the vehicle from fleeing and starting a dangerous pursuit.

When the driver was woken up, they ignored commands to keep their hands visible and were quickly and safely removed from the vehicle. That’s when Agents spotted a handgun right in the driver's door pocket. A thorough search of the truck resulted in the recovery of four firearms.

The suspect, who has a history of armed robbery and assault on a peace officer, was arrested and booked into jail on several charges, including Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender (POWPO) and Driving Under the Influence with two priors.

Incredible tactical work, teamwork, and situational awareness by our patrol teams. Thanks to their quick thinking, a dangerous individual and four heavy-duty firearms are off the streets of Lakewood!

On June 23, 2023, Andrew Warrender, who was staying with his uncle at Turnberry Towers in Las Vegas, armed himself with an AR-15-style rifle inside the high-rise and made his way downstairs.

Near the building's main entrance, Warrender opened fire.

Humberto Garcia, a Turnberry Towers employee who worked in security, was armed with his own handgun.

Garcia returned fire, wounded Warrender and then held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

Reports indicate Garcia wasn't required to carry a firearm for his job. He chose to carry his own handgun.

We don't know how much worse this could have become had Garcia not been there.

On September 17, 2016, Dahir Adan attacked people with knives inside the Crossroads Center mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota, injuring ten.

Then he encountered off-duty police officer Jason Falconer.

Surveillance footage shows Adan advancing with a knife. Falconer fires and Adan goes down—but gets back up and continues advancing. Falconer ultimately stops the threat.

Authorities later determined Falconer's use of deadly force was justified.

We don't know how many additional victims there could have been without his intervention.

His name is Jason Falconer. He is a hero.
