We expect more from our legislative leaders. Right now is a key moment for @CAgovernor and legislators to #FixSB131 and ensure that protections for public health, safety, and the environment remain intact for communities throughout #California
PUBLISHED TODAY: A first-of-its-kind analysis from our own @YannaiKashtan and researchers from @StanfordWoods reveals how much nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) people actually breathe from both indoor and outdoor sources — and the findings are significant.
For many households, gas and propane stoves account for up to half of total NO₂ exposure, a pollutant linked to asthma, heart disease, and lung disease. It also shows that upgrading to electric or induction cooktops can cut total NO₂ exposure by as much as 50%.
This landmark study gives policymakers, public health agencies, and communities a more complete picture of where exposure occurs — and where interventions can have the biggest impact.

📢 Yesterday, Cesar Aguirre of the @ccejn spoke before CA lawmakers and shared his story of living next door to oil and gas drilling. More drilling would mean more destruction, toxic pollution, and harm to our communities. We stand with Cesar and frontline communities everywhere!
📢 NEW: @CCEJN reports — Living near oil & gas in Kern Co. means constant health threats:
Illness & nausea
Rotten egg odors
Pipeline ruptures
Explosive leaks
CA loopholes often let it happen.
📢 NEW: @CCEJN reports —
31% of sites inspected were found to be leaking
37% of leaks are allowed by regulatory loopholes
The “heavy oil” exemption shields 68% of CA’s oil & gas sites from leak monitoring & repair rules
