We know that Large Language Models (LLMs) are as persuasive as humans, but why? 🤖💬 My new preprint dives into this question using data from one of @AnthropicAI's experiments (N = 1,251) showing the mechanisms behind AI's persuasive power: https://t.co/G8q67Wy3rs #AI#Persuasion
Anyway, if anyone needs me, I’ll be polishing my LinkedIn profile in case our future AI overlords start hiring humans for nostalgic, low-stakes roles like “former decision-maker”. Meanwhile, you can check the Are We Cooked? Index here:

I built a dashboard to monitor whether humanity is about to be politely deprecated by some AI overlord. It’s called the Are We Cooked? Index: https://t.co/ifxKUWTTn2

The uncomfortable realization, at least for me, is that this is not just a technological curve. It’s a behavioral one. We are not only building more capable systems; we are continuously redefining what we are comfortable delegating to them. The index captures that drift.
💻En debates online, GPT-4 puede ser más persuasivo que las personas

I double-checked. No such paper. Just a fabricated citation, right in the area of "fake news detection". So, in a way, I’ve been cited… in an alternate academic universe? Lesson: verify your AI sources. Otherwise, you might end up citing papers from the Multiverse of Academia.
It had to happen sooner or later. Today, as an academic editor, I received a paper citing… a non-existent paper supposedly authored by me. The citation looked legit, something I could have written, but… I definitely didn’t.
New paper out in @ScienceMagazine! In 8 studies (multiple platforms, methods, time periods) we find: misinformation evokes more outrage than trustworthy news, when it does it's shared more + ppl are less likely to read before sharing. w/ @killianmcl1@Klonick@mollycrockett 🧵👇
@DaniNovarama En realitat no examina totes les converses, només allò que té guardat en memòria. Per veure en què ha basat la resposta, només cal dir-li: "Show me your memory notes".
We all want the world to know our theories on human-AI interactions, but what the world actually needs is more empirical papers and meta-analyses like this great paper.
Human-AI systems performed significantly worse than the best of either humans or AI.

I'm excited to announce that I’ve joined the @PLOSONE Editorial Board! I’m welcoming submissions on topics like misinformation, large language models (LLMs), and the societal impact of AI. If you're working on these areas, I’d love to see your work: https://t.co/AfK4fHSAcq
🚨 New Paper Alert! 🚨 Our latest paper with @bernatsalbanya and Jordi Nin, "Structure matters: Assessing the statistical significance of network topologies," is now available in @PLOSONE: https://t.co/JYoMNEzfA9 #NetworkAnalysis#DataScience
