Myth: Young people's involvement in governance is not important.
Fact: Young people make up a significant portion of the population and are directly affected by decisions made today. Excluding them from governance processes can result in policies and programmes that do not fully reflect their needs, experiences, and aspirations. Youth participation brings fresh perspectives, innovation, and energy into discussions and decision-making, helping to create solutions that are more inclusive, responsive, and forward-thinking. When young people are actively engaged, governance becomes stronger because it benefits from diverse ideas and a broader understanding of the realities facing communities.
Young people are not just future leaders; they are important stakeholders whose voices, experiences, and contributions matter in shaping the development of their communities today.

Child labour continues to affect the lives, education, and future opportunities of many young people. But what if communities, institutions, and young people themselves could work together to change that reality?
Curious Minds is working with UNICEF Ghana and other stakeholders to empower young people through civic engagement and skills development to help address the root causes of child labour and create pathways to brighter futures.
Read our latest blog to discover how this project is bringing together young people, community leaders, and institutions to drive meaningful change.

Myth: Only educated or “big” people can speak in community meetings.
Fact: Everyone has the right to speak and be heard in community spaces, regardless of their education or social status.
Community meetings are meant to reflect diverse voices and experiences, and although confidence, language barriers, and social dynamics may make participation difficult for some people, these challenges do not take away their right to contribute.
With the right support and awareness, more young people and community members can participate meaningfully in discussions and decision-making processes.
Inclusive community participation becomes possible when every voice is recognised and valued.

To the Government of Ghana: thank you for listening to 542 CSOs and millions of girls across the country.
Your action is helping 2 million schoolgirls manage their periods with dignity.
Now extend the policy to every girl, everywhere.

At Curious Minds Ghana, we believe periods are normal, and stigma should never stand in the way of any young person’s dignity, health, or opportunities. 🩸
This Menstrual Hygiene Day, we join the global call to build a #PeriodFriendlyWorld; a world where all adolescent girl and young woman have access to accurate menstrual health information, affordable menstrual products, supportive environments, and the confidence to manage their periods safely and without shame.
Menstrual health is a human rights, education, and gender equality issue. Ending stigma requires collective action through open conversations, inclusive education, and sustained investment in the wellbeing of young people.
Together, we can create communities where no one is excluded, discriminated against, or held back because of menstruation.

Menstrual health is everyone’s conversation. Breaking stigma means inclusion.
As we mark Menstrual Hygiene Day, let’s remember that many young girls still struggle to access menstrual products — and that must change.

“Family planning cases among primary school girls”, I'm lost here, what does that even mean? If these girls below 16 years old are getting pregnant, why aren't the boys/men getting arrested? So many questions @actforchangegh@cmghana@PPAGGhana@UNFPAGhana

As we wrap up initial consultations for Yoma Ghana, @cmghana engaged stakeholders in Assin South District together with @UNICEFGhana and partners to explore practical pathways for empowering young people through soft skills development and digital opportunities.
The engagement featured an inception meeting where we simulated how the Yoma platform works, and in-depth consultations with cooperatives, religious leaders, the National Commission for Civic Education, Ghana Education Service ,Business Advisory Centre, and young people. Key discussions highlighted youth interest in agriculture, opportunities in agribusiness, and the need for soft skills such as branding, and digital marketing.
Stakeholders also identified challenges such as limited access to digital tools and unstable internet connectivity, while emphasizing strong local support systems and government-led initiatives that can be leveraged.
Together, these insights are shaping a more inclusive and locally relevant Yoma in Ghana, designed to empower young people and reduce vulnerability to child labour.

Over two impactful days in the Asene Manso Akroso District, our 3rd cohort of SRH Youth Champions engaged in interactive sessions on menstrual hygiene, consent, adolescent pregnancy, contraception, and SRHR advocacy. Through realistic simulations, discussions, and peer learning, these young people were equipped the confidence and skills to lead meaningful conversations within their communities.
By empowering these young people with knowledge and leadership skills, we continue to take important steps toward reducing teenage pregnancy and promoting informed decision-making among adolescents.

Myth: Governance is only for politicians.
Fact: Governance is a shared responsibility that involves everyone, including young people. Beyond political leaders, young people can contribute by participating in community discussions, engaging local leaders, and helping shape decisions that affect their communities.
Governance becomes stronger and more inclusive when young people actively contribute to conversations and decisions that affect their communities.

Myth: Young people don’t have a say in decisions.
Fact: Young people can influence decisions when they are informed, organised, and actively engaged in their communities. Real change happens when young people speak up, participate consistently, and work together to hold leaders accountable and shape the future they want.
#YouthParticipation is essential for inclusive, responsive, and accountable governance. More young people must be empowered and encouraged to take part in decision-making at every level.
